Im doing external fixators with Dr solomin in 2018-2019. Anyone interested?
-
I'm considering a toss-up between Mitkovic and Solomin in this time period for internals. It depends on how much money I have. I might join you.

I thought Dr. Solomin only did externals?
-
Thats great! Im a good cook so I dont mind cooking during the stay. :)
-
Yeah, I guess. He does LATN which is kind of both internal and external although I guess it would be conventionally referred to as external.
That said doing that on my femurs would be really painful and I'm not sure if I'm enough of a masochist to do it :P
-
I'd like to join if it's in 2019. Still looking through the Indian doctors. Where is the link to his website/info?
-
I plan on going after I finish college and save some money.
7cm on tibias with pure externals or LON, didn't decide which yet.
Around the end of 2018 or 2019, so maybe we can all go together. :)

Oops. Accidental quote.
I was gona say Ii'm thinking of going to Solomin too, and if I do will probably go some time mid to late next year. So I might see you guys there.
-
P.S. I was wrong about LON and LATN. They combine internal and external methods but use an internal advice to do the work of lengthening.
Also externals on femurs are painful, LON and LATN are apparently fine. Just FYI if you didn't know

Fixed that for you to avoid missinformation getting spread :)

I'm in the same situation, I guess it just really depends on how much money I have saved up. The only bad thing I heard about Dr. Solomin is getting a visa longer than a month, which isn't really his fault. But how can you extend your stay?

there are companies that do everything for you or the hospital will do(medem).
-
Thanks Chris
Yes with LATN and LON you can wear the external device for maybe 1/3rd as long, only during lengthening, not consolidation.
I heard that Solomin's clinic can sort out a visa for longer than that? In fact, this is what he told me when he emailed. Where did you hear that it was difficult to get anything longer than a one month visa?
-
Maybe I was mistook Solomin with somebody else. I thought I read a thread a while ago that said he doesn't offer visa support. Is that not right?
-
When he emailed me he said he did offer full visa support if requested.
-
Ah but the catch is that visa support is only offered if you stay and are treated at the more expensive MEDEM clinic (instead of St. Elizabeth).
-
Well I can't understand a lick of Russian anyway so i'm going for medem. Anyone thinking of finding an english speaking appartment rental?
-
I've been looking into Solomin a lot more since reading this, and as far as price goes it's incredibly tempting. Do you guys know of any diaries or any experiences from him? I for the life of me cannot find a single complete one.
-
Hi guys,
I have done LATN with dr Solomin, from my experience if you guys go with external only, I would recommend him, but if you go with LATN, I would not because the frame for external only, has 5 half pins and 4 wires, then when nailing you would have from 5 to 6 incisions for screws and a big one on the knee, then you will end up with a lot of scars, plus these incisions, pins will affect to your nerves, currently I have one skin area near the right knee having numbness, in some places the sensation is reduced, and the biggest complication is my left foot still have no sensation and painful inside, the toes is difficult to move up and down and couldn't move in horizontal direction. When I told him these symptoms he only said that I should consult with a neurologist and didn't explain any thing or giving his opinion on this. When I came back my country and met with an orthopaedic specialist and an neurologist, they said that I need to wait for some months for nerve recovery and it may or may not recover completely.
So if you go with external + internal I think you should consider LON with dr Parihar

Dang, that's not that great to hear. I wasn't really planning on doing LATN, but I was hoping that people would have better experiences with Dr. Solomin. I hope things heal up better for you, thanks for the reply.

The little problem with hybrid methods ( LON, LATN) is the surgery itself, is very long And difficult for the surgeon, more than precice or pure externals, but yes is more comfortable. I do think LATN is better than LON, because you can correct alignment, the problem here is that you can lose a little of height in the nailing surgery, would be good to know which nailing technique Solomin does.
-
I don't get it, is the way Solomin does LATN unusual?

there are 5 scars for 5 half pins, 3 scars for breaking bone (he uses zic zac technique)
when nailing, there are 6 to 7 scars for screw and 1 big one on the knee for inserting the nail
total is 15 to 16 scars, I didn't count small scars caused by wires
so far he had 2 patients having nerve damage after nailing (including me)
if you are ok with that then go for LATN with him.
Also he may offer LON in the email but when you consult directly with him, most likely he will offer only LATN, I think because he is more familiar with LATN than LON, also all the patients I know, no one did LON with him

if your legs are not curved then I don't think LATN is a good option in terms of scars, risk of complications, the second big surgery for nailing should be avoided

Hey SAVeteran! How are you? Its been a while :) PM me maybe?

Thanks for the info! This is all really useful to know.
Were you and the other guy in the same group of patients- doing LL at the same time? Or is this just overall?
Basically, what % of patients would you say have this problem with Solomin?
Cheers

Have you done the operation in the end?

Hi Kakahi,

Do you have neuropraxia?
-
I plan to do Solomin or Kulesh in late 2018 or early 2019 (dependent on whether I can save up that time).
-
Hi, I consider going there, too. However, there is currently no visa support, so how do you guys get to stay there for at least 3 months?
The business visa is not something you get for comsetic surgery. A private visa needs and invitation, right? Both of these are the only options to stay there for 3 months. The next easier option is a normal tourist visa for 1 month only.
What to do? Wait until politics change?
-
I heard Solomin sorts out the visa- am I right?
-
What do you mean by "sorts out".
Today I got news that are not that good. I asked them some questions, and here are the answers.
Is there extra charge for bow leg correction - no
or is it included in LATN surgery? - I'd recommend to discuss the possibility of bow-legs correction and then - nailing with professor. my opinion - nailing after bow-legs correction is not possible
How much more time does it take to do bow legs correction with LATN? - -----------
Which Visa do I need? - how long will you stay in St.-Petersburg?
I read that only Medem patients get Visa support. - unfortunately, they don't provide it now. that is caused by politic situation
(off topic) I haven't seen costs for the 3rd surgery, extracting the nail after consolidation. Is this last surgery free or not? - that's not free, but we never performed it for the foreign patients. no one asked
Never knew people would do the 3rd surgery of LATN in their hometown. I mean which doctor does meddle in some other doctor's unfinished business?
Btw, did visa support mean visa extension? They only thing they offered earlier was extending the visa after 3 months. So it seems one has to get at least 3 months in somehow. Doesn't matter anymore since even the visa extension is not offered anymore, not in the updated versions of the informations they give.

there are tones for companies providing visa to Russia for like 300 USD
-
Sounds to me like black hat affiliate marketing.
-
Hi.
Anyone considering Vietnam. Heard there is this company which takes care of everything including visa. I got this reply today-
My name is Thao and I am doctor assistant. To answer your questions:
1. 6 ->7 cm in tibial is a very safe amount to lengthening.
2. For 6 -> 7cm it takes you around 4 months to walk again.
Please view the details caculate below:
* Aftef the first operation to have the frames on, you will need to wait 10 days to start to lengthening.
* With the rate of 0.75mm/day × 94 days ~ 7cm.
* After you have finished your lengthening then you will have to wait 5 days to have the frames removal surgery. Then another 5 days to recover from this surgery and start to walk with your new height.
Assuming you will lengthening maximum 7cm.
The math will be: 10 + 94 + 5 + 5 = 114 days.
If you only want to lengthening 6cm then please minus this result for 10 days = 104 days.
3. After 2 -> 3 years, you will have to come back for nails removal surgery.
4. You will need to be in a good health condition to undergo this surgery.
5. You need to make a deposit of 500 USD for us via Western Union + a front page picture of your passport to make a reservation + the date of your arrival. Please be aware that this fee is included in the total price and is non refunable in case you decide you do not want to do the surgery any more.
If you have more questions, please let me know. It is my pleasure to help international patients.
Best Regards,
Thao.
Do you think that western union sounds fishy?
-
I'm planning 5 cm external in tibia late 2018 or 2019 so it will be great to have some company - I'm saving money now
-
Are you guys still travelling?
-
I want to do limb lengthening in Russia in about a year hit me up if anyone else would like to do the same
-
Hey Guys, I am doing LL in Russia 2019, maybe September, around then. I will be staying in Russia for 1 year so if anyone wants to share an apartment or anything like that then Im down for it. :) :) :) I am doing it with DR. Solomin and DR. Kulesh. The rent would be so much cheaper and we wouldn't be in this alone either.

Does this apply to European countries? Or did you mean to say just the US? Because I am pretty sure Europeans can get a Longer term visa to Russia? Not sure, need to check.
