How long should you wait before going home after LL?
« on: December 19, 2022, 10:33:30 PM »

I heard of people leaving to go home as early as right after surgery. Some others leave after the lengthening process of 2-3 months.

However for my case what would you recommend?
I'm considering 8cm internal femurs
But it seems like most 8cm LL users here barely could walk without assistance after 9-10 months.

Is it recommended to stay as long as possible where my LL was operated? Of course if its financially feasible?

Personally I’d try go with weight bearing internal nails to counter this issue.

I went home right after the lengthening and took many months to recover from nerve pain, muscle weakness, walk good, body adjusting to the new height, and bone formation. I did not want to extended my trip in WPB and was ready to get out of there. People definitely asked what happened to me when I got back home. I lied and told them I got into an accident. No one questioned it

Did you work after you came back home? My biggest concern is being handicapped for a year and not working.

Curious to know as well.  I don't know how people can afford to spend $50,000 - 100,000 AND not have any source of income for at least 6 months.  Are most people here just living with their parents and not renting/paying a mortgage?

It was during covit when I got back home and I worked from my laptop. I did lengthening when  stryde nail was available so I was able to get around. Full recovery from this surgery takes awhile. It depends on your bone growth and the type of work.

I had passive income and my place was paid off so I did not have to worry about money.

You guys got to have enough money saved in case you have to deal with complications. It can happen to anyone.

you can leave after 4 weeks and you can get a trauma nail swap after LL , then you can walk with a cane right after , so 3 months after initial surgery , you will be able to walk . BUT you are doing 2 surgeries , trauma nail is additional 35k or 9k with insurance .

I know two people did trauma nail after LL , both left one week after surgery . fast recovery too .
I did not do it because I didnt want to go trough another surgery so close to the previous one !
Hope this helps !
