What does PT look like during lengthening?
« on: January 25, 2022, 02:56:56 PM »

Hi, I just booked my femur lengthening surgery with the Precice nails in early June, and am wondering what to expect for physical therapy. Exercises, frequency, duration?

If Paley, daily PT on weekdays for 1 hour. And you're expected to do more on your own at home, especially on the weekends, otherwise you risk falling behind.

The exercises are mostly stretches (in particular hamstrings, quads and hip flexors), plus specific ones if you have specific problems.

Do those stretches now in anticipation of your surgery.

In the beginning of CLL it was classical to do lots of fixed bike. Do your doctors still advise you on that?
I'm thinking about buying one to try to do 1h also on Saturdays and Sundays and "free" extra PT time on week days if I can. I even think about putting a tv screen in front of the bike to distract me and help me do more....
I suppose anyway if I buy before surgery I have to "imagine" enough space to acomodate the external fixators. But at least some time ago that wasn't an issue with normal hospital and PT bikes.
