Title: Possible Bone Faster healing (query for LL veterans).
Post by: Montreal172 on June 27, 2020, 02:58:42 PM
There is a new research paper that came out on webMD about the possible effects
of bone stimulation devices. Consensus is that on average you heal 12 days faster per CM gained.
In other words, someone doing 8 cm stryde would heal 96 days faster (3 months).
Has anyone who done LL tried those devices ?

Dear Montreal 172, parles tu Français? I am also from the province of Quebec :)

Interesting that you ask this question. I suspect you refer to the findings published in our center by Dr. Jauregui and Dr. Herzenberg.

This meta analysis was done on studies containing patients who were lengthened with external fixation in a vast majority, if not the totality. For those patients, time to healing is super important as the fixator cannot be removed until bone has fully healed (3 solid cortex out of 4).

For that reason, we cannot conclude that the same applies to Stryde lengthening. In addition, The lengthening in stryde being all internal as the return to activity protocols being different , quality of life and function is not dependant on implant removal.

A healing index being too fast may increase the risk of premature consolidation and reoperation.

Finally, bone stimulation wether from ultra sound or electromagnetic frequencies is expensive and not covered by insurance. Now that I think of it, the stryde is an electromagnetic implant, it may actually provide some bone stimulation in itself ;)

I hope this helps! do not hesitate to ask any further question
