Nice find.
-
I've been looking for this for a long time and have the right answer.
-
Should this vid get a thread of its own?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz2ePdIKIPo
Posting it for the third time I've seen it posted in these forums, since it's just that good. Same conference as the one Rozbruch's was too.

Posting it for the third time I've seen it posted in these forums, since it's just that good. Same conference as the one Rozbruch's was too.
I've watched the vid in its entirety now.
I just wanted to make some comments:
- At 36:40, they got the Imperial and metric measurements at drastically different levels (https://youtu.be/Iz2ePdIKIPo?t=36m40s). 5'6" should be about 167.7cm, and 142cm is about exactly 4'8".
- Just a little anecdote of mine, but the 50yo+ patient who returned to rock climbing, skiing, etc, maintained a good tibial-femoral ratio (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26398436), and didn't lengthen more than 5cm in either segment, initially.
- Smokers are an undeniable risk group for LL. Paley flat out won't accept them. He didn't even want to add comments like "maybe it's fine if you quit it 3 months before the surgery". I'm guessing he just doesn't want to deal with the risks.
- Estimated 4% chance of fat embolism (https://youtu.be/Iz2ePdIKIPo?t=37m37s). Paley mentioned a sample size of 100. All cases happened in bilateral femoral lengthening.
- All complications involving Precice nails and CLL supposedly resolved. The longest complication (Peroneal Nerve Injury) took a year to resolve.
- Of those complications, one was Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Paley mentioned all patients are on DVT medicine from discharge, and stay on it until they fully weightbear ("5 months on medication").
More passing comments: I know Paley said most of his patients think they have short legs for their total size, and that they actually don't, but I'll be damned if that man in my first timestamp didn't look all torso.
If someone lazy is reading this, but still planning to undergo CLL one day, you should still watch the presentation in its entirety. Paley mentions a lot of very important information regarding flexibility and stretching tests, proportion ratios, down to how he performs his surgeries and lessons learned from bad cases of his past. Also, general information about bone breaks and PT.
-
Good outline, definitely a lot of good nuggets in this video.
To add to the smoking bit, it's just unrealistic to think that a smoker will quit for CLL. The pain, frustration, and long hours of boredom will surely break most smokers. It's not a risk that many doctors would like to take on, since it might taint their track record.

An educational video about the advantages of the hexapod fixator compared to classic Ilizarov. A case study is included in the latter half.
My takeaway is that it's not a necessity for relatively simple manipulation like cosmetic limb lengthening (and definitely doesn't hurt to have it), but it's extremely helpful for complex deformities.

Thanks for sharing it. Almost missed the thread.
-
Just did a zoom video interview with Dr. Mahboubian today on various topics surrounding cosmetic limb lengthening. Feel free to check it out here...

Cheers for posting the video Cyborg, it was really good to hear one of the top docs talk about LL.
You seem to be extremely knowledgeable on this procedure. Are you aware where the field is heading from here, do you know of any upcoming advancements?
It seems like the internal nail and then the full weight bearing Stryde were two major ones that happened recently but while trying to learn about and consider this procedure I think it's be a good idea to know what could be available soon.
-
Thanks yeah the field of LL is definitely on the rise. Although nothing concrete yet, I've heard of some interesting research going on. If I'm able to say or find out more I'll be sure to update
-
Cyborg,
Thanks very much for posting this great video interview with Dr. Mahboubian! I am really hoping to have my femur CLL with Dr. M in the near future so this video interview really helped me a lot! I need to keep saving $$ but as we all know "you get what you pay for..."
Anyways, thanks very much again for this awesome video cyborg! :)
-
Hey deaddog yeah Dr. M is great with his knowledge and experience. I agree premium results usually mean premium price! Thanks I am planning to do more interviews in the future and will update as I do

Another amazing interview Cyborg, great job!
I was really impressed with Dr. Debiparshad. I loved his mindset -
- Not all patients suffer from height dysphoria / some form of a mental illness surrounding there height - this is something I've struggled to connect with myself (I'm not saying others don't have some form of this) and feel much more aligned with the self improvement / improve quality of life approach
- Getting back to work / normal life quality and fully utilizing the weight bearing technology
- His calculated, almost "assembly line" type approach to the surgery - it seems like he has an amazing process down that he has now mastered
- How he views the procedure and its future
If I was getting the procedure done in the states I would definitely be considering Dr. Debiparshad. Thanks for putting this content out.
-
Thanks Batu I agree with all your points and was very impressed with Dr. D as well.
So I was able to do an interview with Dr. Giotikas today and although the sound wasn't the greatest I think he had a unique perspective on LL also.
Interview with Dr. Dimitrios Giotikas (https://youtu.be/UYkFQPR4J4w)
Also, I have touched base with a patient who got cosmetic limb lengthening who said he would be interested in doing a live Q & A for those who ask questions about his LL experience from a patient perspective. I'm not tech savvy at all so still need to learn the details of how to properly live-stream etc.
Have a great weekend!
-
Cool interview. I'm mostlikely going with Giotikas for my rod removals
-
Thanks Movie, yeah you can't go wrong with Dr. Giotikas. Wish you the best!
-
It's really great to see the passion these doctors have for their work, Dr. Gioktas seemed so happy when discussing LL and his patients.
I liked hearing him talk about the different generations of LL and the responsibility he feels to push the field forward in the right way, it will be really great to read his study when it comes out next year.
Data on funtionality, range of motion, recovery based on patients ratios and amount lengthening will be huge imo. These considerations are super important and will really help both doctor and patients decide on the best approach and goals.
Thanks for another of these interviews Victor, you're doing a great service to everybody interested in LL.
-
I agree Dr. G really checks the necessary boxes for a successful outcome. Thanks Batu 8)

Thanks! Really appreciate what you are doing! I was particularly interested when he talked about the fact that soft tissues do grow, not just stretch. As you are keeping your eye on the current research being done, do you think developments are more likely to be in either
a.Slowing the rate of bone growth so that soft tissues can grow in unison ie. comparable to puberty, or
b.Helping resistant soft tissues grow and adapt better
-
I am keeping my eye on research and although some ideas are really intriguing on the LL front, I know a lot of projects need funding amidst the economic impact the pandemic has had.
a.) However I don't know of any way to slow bone healing besides age, deficiency in nutrition and introducing harmful risk factors (smoking, too much anti-inflammatory affecting prostaglandins, and various other medicines and diseases). Hence the importance of x-ray check-ups to monitor the patients rate of bone healing and make sure it matches the patient's muscle flexibility.
b.) In my opinion the best way to do this is going to be through conditioning leading up to your procedure. I believe if you get manual therapy such as deep tissue massages, foam rolling for myofascial release, or a percussion massage gun for breaking up scar tissue adhesions which can really affect muscle rigidity during LL

LOL He was definitely talking about dr Debiparsad wasnt he? about doing only CLLs, doing marketing , doing TV shows, about how many surgeries hes done
I should make a detailed post about this LOL
-
yeah he was definitely subbing debiparshad, lmao, the doctors show
and thanks cyborg, this is perhaps the best interview you've done yet. really love how much paley talked about how this surgery is lifechanging and his rant on body image and how he's changed his own view throughout his life and has become humbled.
also world premiere- paley's own stature only limblengthening website- hyped to see that.
also im suprised that he said 1/3 of his stature patients are quadrilateral lengtheners. i thought it was a rarity but apparently it's more common than i thought.
-
@ru - no comment ;)
@ghkid2019 - thanks yeah I think from his year's of experience he truly understands the patient and their deep-rooted reasons for doing the procedure
-
I had asked my surgeon of he would be down for doing an interview like these, but he declined at the time. I wonder if he's changed his mind since then. A lot of what he said in my consultation mirrored what Dr Paley said in his video interview, particularly about fibula fixation and frustration with the doctors who try to get cosmetic patients in and out like an assembly line.
I think it'd be cool if you try reaching out to Dr Parihar and link him to the Paley interview to see if he'd be cool with doing one now, especially since India is still a sought after budget-friendly alternative.
-
Very accurate. It took me about 2 years to get to my same 5k running time. Thanks for doing the interview!
-
@KiloKahn Yeah I actually reached out to Dr. Parihar about a week or so ago, haven't heard back as of yet as I know there are a lot of requests for him. I linked my previous interviews but perhaps now that I was able to get a sit-down with Dr. Paley it might pique his interest. I'll give it a shot thanks!
@Pushrottam That's what I've heard from most people including myself even though I only had one done. I wasn't back to running all out till about 2-2.5 years after aka a year after device removal.
-
Nice. I had thought Paley wouldn't talk much and would just say "go read up on the FAQs" lol. But he seems to be a very friendly doctor :)
@Kilokahn maybe you can try to help cyborg4life get in touch with Dr. Parihar? ;) I would love to see his interview but again I think he would be very terse in his responses.
@cyborg you should also email his assistant Dr. Divya who usually handles a lot of the administrative stuff.
-
After watching this interview I respect Paley and his practice much more, also quick question to you Vic and @Purushrottam: how long after surgery did you guys get your rods removed? I'm trying to get them out ASAP but while making sure my bones are consolidated and safe, and also how long until you guys were back to "normal" from that removal surgery?
-
He seems like such a trustworthy and competent doctor. He seems to be saying that he gets people back to 100% or near enough...........??
By the way in case it isn't already obvious, thanks very much for doing these interviews!
-
Thank you for your channel, also, congratulations for your first 1000 subscribers.
-
@limewalk I agree I talked to him for a bit before and after the interview and Dr. Paley is a cool guy. 8) Dr. Divya, okay got it. I plan to reach out again this week to see if Dr. Parihar would come on.
@Movie So I had my original surgery done late July 2012 and the removal was the Sept/Oct 2013 so just over a year later. I remember I was advised to use a crutch or two for a few days and was a tad stiff where they went in to remove rod and screws but could walk fine. Week 1 was just stationary bike to loosen up and after 2 weeks I slowly transitioned back into the gym. I noticed a difference getting the rod out. I could feel the tibia-fibula able to twist and torque better without feeling restricted with hardware, not to mention feeling a bit lighter in the leg and the original Precice was titanium so I can only imagine the weight the Stryde carries being steel.
@kats20 yeah he's a careful worker, the GOAT in LL. Thanks I appreciate it!
@Polvoron thanks for your support! I thought hitting the 1k mark was cool too for such a niche topic
-
right on bro yeah I feel my legs a bit heavy and slow, hopefully I have the same results. Thanks for answering
-
Is it really true that you can (as Paley says in this interview):
- contact a PA for any difficulties during lengthening 24x7 and they would help you?
- if any complications spotted during PT, they would immediately text Paley and he or Robbins would see you without appointment?
Can Paley patients confirm?

When I discharged from hospital, they did give me a number and said there will be people answering the call 24/7 if I have emergency. But I never tried to call that number. So can't really answer that.
The therapists monitored my progress and measured the degree of my bending and legs straight. They said they need to input these number to their system and the doctor will check it. So I do believe they keep monitoring patients. But I am not sure what they will do if they spotted out complications. So far I am doing ok, I can give only my experience.

-Yes. Paley has a web portal where you can send messages to Paley and all of his staff. Generally, the doctors or PA got back to me within 24 hrs. I never had to call them as there was never an issue that was urgent for me.
- Yes the PT's oversee and monitor your progress throughout the entire distraction process (5 days a week). Each PT session the PT's are assessing your health (flexibility, pain or discomfort, range of motion, etc.) Also every 2 weeks you get x rays and the PT's do RoM measurements to make sure you are not behind the curve. I've seen people who got too stiff / didn't stretch enough where the PT's took note and informed the doctors who then required the patient stop lengthening, so yes, they do keep a watchful eye on you which overall is a good thing as it keeps you accountable for stretching and prioritizes safety.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say !!!!!!!!!!!!!WELL DONE CYBORG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
did dr lee say that people recovered to about 70% in vigorous sports ?
-
What a surprise. You actually got Dr. Lee on. Good job cyborg
He injects BMAC to all his tibia patients. That's really cool, never heard about this.
Also- what doctors did he mention at the very end? He said Paley, Rozbruch, then someone from Germany, and then Turkey.
Who did he say? From Germany and Turkey
-
Wow, all the CLL legends getting interviewed by Cyborg. Great job, man.
Dr. Lee is straight up and he even threw a couple of more CLL surgeon names into the hat! He's right about recoverability, by the way. Paraphrased, you should aim for 100% recovery but be ready to fall within the 70%-90% range. Prepare for that. Having gone through this surgery myself, returning to "just walking and jogging" comfortably within 6 to 9 months is easily attainable. To approach and regain your old athletic self; well that can take 2 or more years.
Good luck guys and I hope these great videos keep coming!
All the best,
IFS

Peter Thaller from Germany.
Hi Cybrog4life did you get a response from Dr. parihar or his assistant surgeon?
-
Cyborg,
I hope you do not misunderstand the question I am willing to ask.
First of all, I have to admit that I literally watched all your videos and I find you pretty charming, a lovely and energetic human being and I'm so glad that you are doing okay, keeping yourself fit etc.
But the question is, why do you always comment on videos about LL on youtube, and also spend time for the interviews etc.
Are you doing this because you want to help people or are there another resaons? Like maybe you love science and this topic interests you or something.
What I mean is, you've already done this surgery 8 years ago, like why do you even care now; watching new videos about LL and commenting etc. If I were you, I'd completely forget about the LL and never ever use the forums nor the youtube resources.
Best Regards
-
@ghkid2019 yeah it was Peter Thaller from Munich Germany but the other one I will have to ask to find out it was hard to make out.
@IFS I agree. Training like you want to regain 100% will get you much closer to it than not trying at all. One thing you may or may not be fully noticing by now is the new muscle tissue formed allows you to actually become stronger once it matures within 3-4 years. I noticed More muscle = more strength potential = more power and performance. Obviously takes time to adapt and get used to depending on leg length etc. which is something to look forward to also!
@limewalk unfortunately no. I've tried both Dr. Divvya and Dr. Parishard but no reply. I will occasionally followup though. I have gotten in contact with my Dr. Janet Conway who I plan to interview soon enough. She did great for me and even Dr. Paley gave her props after I went off air on my interview
@A fair question. So the main reason I started it was to answer questions in bulk that I'd get asked (and still do) on a daily basis. Also, I just wanted to create a resource I wish I had when I was researching the procedure 8 years ago. I bootstrapped some info that was on the web but had to make a decision within 3 weeks before starting grad school the following year. I also try to focus presenting the information in a way the general population can understand it so maybe it would be a tad bit more understood idk.
Also, I always liked orthopedics (as I was considering becoming one) and when I consider I had been in and out of the hospital for 3 broken legs among other injuries, I guess this is my way to be involved a part of the field I like without fully committing to being a full-on surgeon. The people's spokesperson if you will.
It would've been easy to just not look back but that was before I got drawn in. Now it's a fun hobby where if I get asked a question enough I'll jot down some ideas and decide to shoot a video after work and upload it. I blame the answering of every comment on Gary Vaynerchuk and his talks on giving value to build brand and so here we are...#cyborgs

You are a lovely human being, wish the best for you.

It's been a good while since I've posted on here hasn't it! Well I'm back with another interview with a surgeon...this time it's across the pond to London with an interview with Mr. Ian Bacarese-Hamilton (https://youtu.be/U9LP25H9dYE).
Mentored by some of the best, including Paley, he has several decades of experience in limb lengthening and a great track record with patients. His audio was quite echo-ey as it sounded good on my end.
Anyways hope everyone has been awesome lately! And if you get a chance to watch be sure to subscribe...I know shameless plug lol.

Hey everyone, here’s a bit of a different interview I had with Dr. Robert Wolfe (https://youtu.be/vjft3vgfqNI), a world leader in amino acid research. He explains how important essential amino acids are to help patients recover after surgical procedures. Then he explains how his two patented supplements can help. Give it a watch if you want to optimize your post-limb lengthening recovery.
Audio is much better too. Have a great weekend!

@Sophie - no. Not that soon.
Hey everyone,
I just uploaded an interview I did with LL Surgeon Dr. Franz Birkholtz of Stellenbosch, South Africa. He has over 20years of LL and deformity reconstruction experience, Dr. B talks about his surgical approach, compares the FITBONE vs. PRECICE, discusses complications, athlete-tailored physical therapy and things to watch for in the LL industry.
Also he seems to have a very competitive pricing package which might be intriguing to some.
You can check out the interview here: Interview with Dr. Birkholtz (video version on YouTube) (https://youtu.be/R9mxv4UCDX4)
