Title: Pain of surgery the first week
Post by: Jokerhastowait2022 on January 08, 2021, 02:50:46 PM
Hi,

This is a question for those who have undergone CLL.
Can you please describe the pain right after surgery up to the first week?
I'm about to undergo this surgery very soon and have no clue what to expect.

thanks.

Is it something like....death would have been better....or is it something like a manageable affair.

Like a manageable affair then afterwards a guy comes with a hammer and hit you continously even while you sleep haha

Most amount of pain that I felt was maybe a 4 at the most and only took half of the oxycodone that was prescribed to me (40 pills 5 mg each). I met a patient who had minimal pain and one patient quit less than one month in the process because he couldn't handle the pain. Pain is so individual.

And how was this man's physical condition? Muscular? I hear very muscular patients feel the pain the most and skinny patients seem to do the best

He was skinny and not muscular.

I've never taken any painkillers. But it's very individual. For sure rest quality will be very bad for many weeks after surgery.

My painful days were the first 3-4 with pain from 4 to 6/10.
All the other months were painless to 2/10 at max a few days and I almost haven't even taken a painkiller after the first week.

However, external monorails on tibias as I did is maybe the most painless way to do LL.
With internals things are different.

I was in a considerable amount of discomfort but mostly at night after they disconnected epidural. I would say it was manageable with painkillers. But I would wake up everynight at 2-3 am and have to pop another pill. I would say the pain level reached maybe a 5/10 max. I remember having a really bad ear infection during lengthening that was significantly more painful than anything surgery related.
