Is the ilizarov method the safest?
« on: May 03, 2019, 04:15:39 AM »

Due to the incredibly cheap price of this method and many medical journals showing this is a relatively safe procedure with minimal long term consequences, I'm seriously considering this method.

I would potentially get this done in Russia. Due to the strength of the British pound compared to the ruble I could save up for this with a part time job and still have an abundance of money for complications and living.

However I would like to know peoples' input and why the ilizarov method isn't viewed favourably in this forum.

Also I'd like to point out that we're rapidly running out of time for when antibiotics are effective. This is always conscious in my mind lately which makes me nervous lol. It kinda makes things seem more urgent

Ok thanks guys.

So as money is an issue for me, what would you consider the safest external method for femurs?

I think ilizarov will be safe and cheap enough for surgery

I’m from the UK and have a doctor friend that was telling me about the whole antibiotics situation. Sounds f’d up. I remember not long ago they used to hand them out like it was water

Exactly it pretty much will make all cosmetic and non cosmetic surgeries life threatening. They'll probably have to perform surgeries in a vaccum or something lol

One final question guys. Why despite, major developments in external lengthening, are doctors still using the Ilizariv method for non cosmetic purposes?
Does this suggest anything about the safety of more modern methods?
