Title: What's the recovery time for LON or LATN?
Post by: ReadRothbard on January 09, 2015, 07:19:41 PM
I know it's shorter than purely external methods, but how much shorter? If I was to lengthen 7 cm on my tibias using LON or LATN, would it be reasonable to assume that I could go back to squatting in about 5-6 months?

The nails have a weight limit on them, so probably not until you're fully consolidated could you do squats with really heavy weights.

externals walking at 7 months.

LON walking at 5 months.

this is the ratio for a given length.

I would probably just be squatting light weights, such as building back up to 300 lbs squat work sets. 300 lbs is fairly light.

I am sold on LON even though you have to go back to get the nails removed. Its a good compromise  between fitbone and ilizarov .

I like the extra support and shortened time.

Nail removal isn't that bad, so I'm not too bothered by it, either. I might end up doing LON or LATN if Dr. Guichet's prices end up rising too high.

Nail removal might not be bad, but remember that LON has a huge risk of permanent knee/hip pain. Just know the risks before you take this surgery. If you can live with permanent pain and know the risks and are willing to take them, then by all means do so.

Why would there be permanent pain?
