Title: Can you study or work during limb lengthening?
Post by: apples on November 04, 2019, 03:06:27 AM
My current plan is to take about one month off for the surgery and to give myself time to heal a bit. Is it possible to lengthen while attending school? For example if I did externals that could be hidden or internals?

Not if you have to physically attend class.

I mean you'll need to focus on healing and PT.

Maybe taking online classes, or a job that remotely requires computer.

LL is extremely physically and mentally draining.  You should just do LL when doing LL.

You gained 3 inches on tibia, woww! How are you doing now?  Have you suffered any problems till now that you can directly blame LL surgery for?

I'm during lengthening phase and I'm working remotely 6h a day. I almost don't have pain. The only problem is with sleeping. Sometimes I can't sleep and I'm sleepy next day when working.

I did three inches on my femurs and was not able to work until after lengthening, even from home. It was just too uncomfortable and sleeping is a challenge. It is hard to sit for more than a few minutes at a time without feeling great discomfort, even pain, and a lot of stiffness. I didn’t know this before the surgery, so I missed several months of work.  Only now, several weeks after lengthening, am I really able to work, even from home. Recovery is very, very slow, at least for me.

Two minor things.  My knees are a bit sensitive when I kneel on hard surfaces, and my calves are a little tight.

I'm currently doing femurs with Stryde (5 cm) and find it nearly impossible to do any work that requires cognitive thinking. The nagging dull pain, need to stretch/do PT every couple of hours, and lack of sleep all work against you. Imagine trying to do work or study with a mild to medium headache or toothache....it's difficult. No imagine having that headache / toothache for a couple of months......very hard.

If you can, do LL where your only responsibility and area of focus is LL.

To be criminally honest, these sides are worth 3inches height that too w illizarov. Now things should be easier with stryde.

Although things should be easier with Stryde, working during lengthening is still almost impossible except for some remote computer work or something that requires really minimum physical work with no long hour.  Even some possible works will be compromised a lot.  I strongly recommend any future llers to solely focus on lengthening during lengthening.  1-2 months of recovery time after lengthening is much better.

I agree. I’m feeling much better almost by the day now, seven weeks after lengthening. I’ve been able to do computer work which requires concentration now for a few weeks. Throughout the lengthening period, and perhaps a little beyond, it would have been impossible for me to concentrate.

i would just relax and play video games/watch movies. You do not want additional stress which comes from working/studying. This is why its important to not only save up for the surgery, but also save up for the $ needed during recovery time. This is my opinion though. Some have worked during lengthening and done very well!
