Hi everyone, so i had a consultation with dr Lee couple days ago and will go under surgery on the 18. Wish me luck everyone. I will try to keep my diary updated as a payback for the help of this forum on my journey.
-
Good luck Cpl2012!
I wish you the best a safe journey and surgery! Hope you also have the time to enjoy Korea there too😊
-
He released stryde this month. Hopefully you're doing that. Hopefully.
-
If anyone has the pricing for stryde in Korean / English / Japanese / Chinese, (it should all be different) from Lee. Do share please.

im 168cm. My goal is 6cm on tibia. And 4 on femur

Maybe you should do the opposite, 6cm in the femur and 4cm in the tibia. The less the better imo when it comes to tibia. Very best of luck anyway.

actually from experience of my roomate. He said it is harder to do pt when you go longer on femur. Because of thick muscles around the thigh. And my physical therapist said that alot of his patience achieved more than their goal on tibia, like from 5 to 6 or even more. Finger crossed! Hope that is the case for me.

Today 08/21 is my fourth day. I have been having mood swings. I have been having fever on and off also. So i think mental support is very important and keep thinking positive. Everyday past you are getting better. Dr Lee whole team is amazing such nurses, caretaker, especially Hailey. If you are an international patient, you most like work with her. She has been helping me a lot.
Onething to take note, most of the nurses don’t speak english or very little. Hailey will help you but make sure you can basically communicate with them through translation app. :)[/img]

Can you post pictures of the room and bathroom?
-
Did my first pt session.
First xray
Everything is fine.
The physical therapist said my flexibility is above average which make me feel confident and move my legs bit more.
When i get back to my room i hah pain on my left knee really bad to the point that i dont feel my left leg anymore. So i asked for some pain medication. It does not work much. I keep change my leg position, eventually lucky me i found a position that does not hurt that bad and the pain calm down a bit.

Is it super hard to bath? How often do you bath?
-
I have some questions.
1. What visa did u get and how did u get it?
2. How did u pay for this (bank transfer for example)
-

i have been using bath towel.because my apartment bathroom
Is really tiny, i want to wait until i can start using walker. Also i bough the water proof cast cover to take shower.
-
I have some questions.
1. What visa did u get and how did u get it?
2. How did u pay for this (bank transfer for example)
1. I can stay 3 month without visa cause i am US citizens but the hospital will help me to apply my medical visa after that cause i need more 3 months.
2. I paid 90% with my debit and credit cards. ( call ur bank if they charge internal transaction fee)
Cause my bank don’T do international wire transfer so i did use transferwise to send some. Exchange rate is a it higher but you have to pay fee. So there is no difference if you pay with credit card.
Keep in mind that you need to call your bank to increase your spending limit otherwise it is hard to pay a large amount of money.

i am not staying the hospital bro. Honestly it is not to bad to stay in hospital there are con and pro especially if you stay in 4 person room.
Pro:
The 4 person room pretty big so will have enough space for yourself.
You have chance to make friends with other patients and learn from their experience
Bathroom is big ( My bathroom at my apartment is super tiny, so i always wait until i get to the hospital to take care my business)
The nurses will be there with you all the time
Con:
Pretty noisy especially when there are new patients, nurses come in very often.
Sliding door make a lot of noise
Hospital bed are really stiff.
-
How do you go back to ur apartment after PT? Does someone wheelchair u over to DALRI and back?

Hey Cpl2012, hope you are doing well. How really good the facilities in the 4 person rooms at the hospital? Do you have TV? Minibar? Safe box? Inside the room?
Do you know what type of pain killer they are using each time?

CPL are u Chinese? How.many Chinese and how many Koreans and how many Japanese. Who is your roommates. Japan? Hi i am Vietnamese. There is only one chinese patient here. 2 chinese just left. Most of patients here are korean. Due to Covid not a lot of internal patients here.I stay in an apartment not in the hospital though.
-
American?
-
Cpl, are you able to use a walker? If so, how difficult is it? I was under the impression that using a walker wouldn’t be too hard based on diaries like Jolien’s but now I’m getting different info.
-

i am Vietnamese. I stay in an apartment close to the hospital. There is only one chinese patient now. Another chinese boy just left after finishing his lengthening. The rest are Korean. There are like around 20 patients right now. Dr Lee is pretty busy treating both cosmetics and medical patients.
-
I have been lengthening for 10 days now. Start practicing standing, blunging couple hours every day. I spend most of my day at the rehab center as my physical therapist recommends. There are around 20 patients at the rehabilitation center so it is kind of fun and everyone else keeps me motivated. The pain is much less now and with the pain killer, somedays i barely feel any pain.

vietnamese american

I start practicing to use walker second week after surgery. I don’t use walker much though, but practicing standing a lot. I guess i will use walker more when i get stronger. I guess it depends on your weight. I saw a tiny girl with external fixator and her mobility is amazing. She got the surgery before me though.

Hi Cpl2012,
Congrats on going through with this procedure. I have some questions for you. How long do you plan on staying in Korea? Is the place you are staying at part of Donghoon Lee's facilities or is it like some airbnb thing you rented out? If so could you explain the process of them transferring you from hospital to where you are staying? How are you getting around those first weeks where you can't walk very far on your own?
Thanks

I might stay more than 4 months. The apartment is not associated with the hospital. The owner has just been working with the hospital. The staffs ( Hailey and Mathew) were really nice l. They helped me to carry my luggages. The place is just 5 minutes from hospital. I hire a caretaker.my caretaker just wheelchair me back and for from my place to the hospital. If you stay in the hospital, it will be much more convenient. For me, cause of some personal reasons , I can’t stay in the hospital. If you stay outside, you have to pay for every dr visits( every 2 weeks) and medication after being discharged from the hospital.

hey bud any updates?
hey nothing new so far. Took my first xray after 2 weeks of lengthening. It is just 0.6cm. Dr said it will get faster and faster. So far the pain is on and off but manageable.
-
what is your current rate of distraction?
-
what is your current rate of distraction?
around 2 cm per month. At the end of the lengthening will be faster around 3 cm a month.
-
around 2 cm per month. At the end of the lengthening will be faster around 3 cm a month.
don't do that , nerve pain can occur and chances of non-union , better slow down lengthening rate in the end phase
-

thanks for your advice. 3 cm a month which mean 1mm a day. I don’t know exactly what speed i gonna do until then. It depends on what dr Lee’s recommendation. I am just saying based
On other patients’ experience.

A few things you need to know
First just after surgery your dr. will come to see your dorsi flexion ( next day ) to check nerve damage .
most of the drs in the world allow lengthening 5 to 10 days after surgery and then x-ray 9 to 10 days after lengthening to see is lengthening happening or not if lengthening happening then they will see your callus if callus is good your dr would suggest you to do fast lengthening because there is a fear premature consolidation if callus is normal , he will advise 1 mm per day.
3 to 4 week another x-ray time , if all fine like callus is average and you don't have any numbness ,he will say keep doing 1 mm per day, if you have numbness, he advise you slow down lengthening rate and will prescribed you pregabantin or other nerve pain medicine,,
then 3 to 4 week another x-ray time , at this time you should be around 6 cms , this is the most serious time , you may have numbness , low callus , stiff muscles ,so many things , and for good results better to do 1 mm per day or even .75 or less per day ,if callus is good and you don't have nerve pain , you can keep doing 1 mm per day ,

Yes, i got my xray taken every 2 weeks so dr Lee can supervise my lengthening process. If anything happens during that 2 week period, i can always inform him through his staff.

Yeah the left leg looks more curved than the right. Maybe you had a pre-existing deformity before the surgery. By the way, how much did you have to pay for the first 2 week check up?

☺️☺️😁😁 glad y'all have sum fun even when doing exercisess

Hey there buddy!
Dr.lee is absolutely a great choice. He know his craft. I'm sure you'll turn out all right and move on with you life. Keep those lengthening going!
A question if you don't mind answering: How much did you pay for the operation it self?
Have a good day/night
-
Dr Lee sounds like a decent Dr. Could you possibly send me the link of his new price lists for the sugery thank you. Also how much have you lengthened so far? Stay strong !!!

Yeah i am glad i choose him. A lot of local trust him. As i know he is not the only dr perform this surgery in korea, but korean patients told me they choose him over other dr in korea because of his good reputation. I haven’t met any patient who have any complication. I paid 43.5 million krw for the surgery alone.
-

hey bro sorry i don’t have the new price list. But as i know, price still the same, and stryde is 10 mil krw more.

Hi Cpl2012,
Hope you are doing well. I wonder how much it cost you for accommodation outside?
-
Hi Cpl2012,
Hope you are doing well. I wonder how much it cost you for accommodation outside?
I pay around 1100$ for a studio close to the hospital. Everything included.
-
Hi cpl,
How much did it cost in total for your lengthening? Including the 10% tax and apartment cost?
-
CPL are u Chinese? How.many Chinese and how many Koreans and how many Japanese. Who is your roommates. Japan?
i am not Chinese. Vietnamese. Currently there are 2 chinese but they almost done now. No Japanese. Not much foreigner now cause of covid. I finally got my frames removed last week. Legs are still really tight at night. Hard to sleep
-
Hi Cpl, hope you're doing well! How much have you lengthened? have you developed ballerina's foot?

I paid around 53 mil krw including 10%tax. Around 1200$ for apartment.
-

hi bro, i stop at 5.9cm and ended with 6.1. LON lengthen itself a bit more after 2 weeks.
-
Thanks for replying, hope your doing well! :)
Just curious, how much of the Vat would be refunded to you out of the amount you paid haha
-
looks like you're doing great, congrats. what was your starting height and ending height? any plans to do femurs too?

Hi how is everything going on? U doing better yet?

Do you mind if I ask which hotel you are staying at and how much is it for the room? I am planning to do LL by August. I wish you safe recovery :)

I think it is around 10%
-
looks like you're doing great, congrats. what was your starting height and ending height? any plans to do femurs too?
My original height is around 168 now a bit more than 174. My plan was getting both done. But now i am pretty happy with my proportion, so i am not sure yet.
-
Hi how is everything going on? U doing better yet?
i am doing ok. My bone consolidation speed is pretty slow, so i can can not walk without walker yet. Musles are pretty tight.
-
Do you mind if I ask which hotel you are staying at and how much is it for the room? I am planning to do LL by August. I wish you safe recovery :)
there is an apartment building close to the hospital. I paid around 1.3 million krw. But you need to check with the hospital staff to see if the rooms are available. Cause other patients might be staying there. If you get stryde on femur, i would recommend go with the package.
-
Oh no you still cant walk after 6 months without a walker?
-
Why didn't you just take out a personal loan if you are in the US, if it's only 10 million won more for stryde, which is only a $10k difference? $10k loan at 10% is only around $325 a month, and you would be done within 6 months.
-

He paid about 46k USD and stryde was about 75k USD so about 30k USD more

LL means losing 1 year of your life.

yes It takes couple more months longer than stryde. Especially my bone consolidation is slow. I am taking the while year off from work because of covid that is why i did LON even though it takes longer to save money for second surgery with Stryde.

sorry for the confusion. Stryde cost 10 mil krw more than precise. What i got is LON
-
Do you regret the procedure at the moment?
-
Any updates?
-
Which is the cost for LON tibias with dr Lee?
-
How is your recorvery going on? Are you able to run? Some Updates would be very nice:)
