1. What kind of doctor would you go to for the scar removal? I vaguely recall someone saying in the old forum that he used a burn specialist, I can't remember
2. What kind of procedure/what is the name of the scar removal procedure you would go with?
3. How much did it cost you?
4. Are you happy with the results/would you do it again?
-
1. That was me. I went to two different surgeons. The first doctor was a plastic surgeon who specialized in skin work (tissue expansion, breast implants). I got all but two of the scars excised by him. The two breaksite scars were treated by a plastic surgeon who specializes in burn reconstruction. The right leg required one excision and the left required three operations.
2. Excision.
3. $3500 for 16 scars from the first doctor. I forgot what the burn specialist charged. A little more than the other.
4. Yes. If you get externals you should get excisions. In retrospect I should've gone with a cheaper doctor for the 16 easy scars.

Thanks!!!
"The two breaksite scars were treated by a plastic surgeon who specializes in burn reconstruction"
a. Breaksite = places where the pins are depressed? Aren't there alot more than two pins for illazarov?
b. If you could do it again, would you still go to a burn reconstruction surgeon for those scars?
-
Breaksite is where the bones got broken.
Yes, those scars were very difficult to treat so they required the best doctor possible.
-
Thanks, so you feel that burn reconstruction surgeons are the best surgeons at treating scars compared to other surgeons?
-
Burn specialists regularly work on weak, damaged tissue, so for those two scars I think he was the best choice. The shins have very thin skin, so it needed to be stretched gradually and carefully.
I doubt the he could've done better than other, cheaper doctors on the less severe scars though.

Thanks, out of curiosity, how much time do you think would be safe for someone to take off work when recovering from the scar removal surgeries?
-
Depends what your job is.
-
Hmm, say its something not too physical like something in healthcare. How long did you need to take off work after getting the scar removal surgery?
-
Healthcare is a big field.
No time at all.

There is another option to get rid of the scar much more affordable and faster. Try to look for a medical tattoo artist who does camouflage tattoo. I saw some really good results
