Title: I'm 159. Should I target for 170 with safety or go with the max 173?

Does the 173cm me look off? I'm 159 and I want to increase 14cm (6Tibia + 8Femur with 2 years apart). Should I stop at 170cm (+11) and be happy or go with the max (+14?)
Because I'm afraid that at 173 my legs would look too long compared to other guys at 170.
My wingspan is 165cm.

Thank you. I also think that the 170 looks best out of 3. Perhaps I'll go with +12.5 (171.5) and gain some weight. Balance out my greed and my safety/ proportion.

Go for the max! With 170cm you are still short, with 173cm you get into the "normal-height-for-men" territory...

You have a very short height to begin with and you plan to do 2 LLs so yes, go for max.
7.5cm on femurs and 6.5 on tibias will put you in a normal height for a man. 1.70 is not a bad height but since you'll do 2 LLs and you can reach 1.73 without extreme lengthenings, go for it.

Youre already taking a big risk with 2 LLs and a total of more than 10 cm. The difference in risk the extra 3 cm add is small compared to the total risk you are taking. You might as well max at 173 cm and never think of LL again

The difference in height between 170 and 173 on paper isn’t much but to be brutally honest, the proportions look a lot better to me at 170. I’m not normally hugely interested in proportions but to my eyes 170 makes you look like you have long legs and 173 makes your torso look like it was stitched on to someone else’s legs. Not trying to be mean, just my honest opinion

Do 7.5 femurs and 5cm tibias, LL is only mainly noticeable with no clothes like at the beach. With clothes it just looks like long legs for most of the people I’ve seen.

The biggest mistake you are doing is that you are aiming for a "magical number". In your case this magical number is 170cm. This will force you to lengthen to much in one segment.

Think about it, is it really that big of a difference if you are 168cm compared to 170cm? those two cm could be the reason you develop a complication.

My recomendation is to be conservative and prioritize your health over 1-3cm.

Do you think I was wearing my shorts a little bit high? Here are other pictures of extending 6+8 cm wearing low underpants, do you still think it's too off? https://imgur.com/gallery/iqcZngn

I think after doing the LLs, I'll try to gain some weight as well and it'll look better then.

Here's a guy doing +13cm in Tibia only (real surgery not mockup), how do you think? https://imgur.com/a/JhHH5Wf
The right image is if 13cm was divided for the femur and if his leg got more meat.

sure this is real? Looking at the photo I can't believe it's 13cm tibias. also, I doubt he would walk normally again after that amount.

Actually, there're 2 surgeries (7+6) with 9 years apart (2010 and 2019). That's why. Not just normal walk, the paper says now he can lift nearly 200 kgs of weights with his legs https://tuoitre.vn/di-tim-chieu-cao-mo-uoc-ky-2-hai-lan-keo-chan-cao-them-13cm-20201010110356253.htm

You don't look bad. You have a relatively lomg torso like all short men compared to legs.
You can even do 7cm on femurs and still look ok. So don't.overthink about all these, what matters at the end is to be as closer to average height as you can without being crippled. And if things go well, you can do 6cm on tibias and 7cm on femurs and still be ok.

Thank you. Actually, in my country 170 is being considered normal and average already. 173 (if naturally) is being seen as attractive ;D. Anyways maybe I'll decide when already in distracting phase to see where it goes.

Remember that every cm you lengthen after 5 on femur and 3 on tibias adds an exponential amount of time to complications.
Is it worth going for 173 cm or 170 cm instead of something like 167 if it will make you feel a lot more pain just walking in the park with your family and friends? LL is about a balance between height gain and loss of leg function. You need to respect the complications and not get blinded by only the height gain. Remember that you will be walking on these legs also when you are 80 years old.

I'll consider not going too extreme of course. But I'd rather work crazy hard on rehab, exercising, preparing the best health for the surgery than laying lazy on the bed and doing 3-5cm. Knowing that I'm having artificial legs would make me less complacent, work out more and respect my health even more.

It’s not a question of being lazy. Even 5 cm femurs + 3 cm tibias will require a lot of work (years)  to regain athleticism. The thing is, when you lengthen past that, the chances of mechanical axis being off, the soft tissue being damaged (due to amount of lengthening but also due to the speed of lengthening required to achieve more length), ACL surgery and IM band being cut etc. all add to the risk of never being able to regain a healthy amount of movement and balance in your legs again.

Is it not better to go from being 159 cm to 167 cm and still being able to function well rather than going from 159 cm to 170 cm or 173 cm and risk not being able to walk properly again?

You'd expect this to happen, but surprisingly it's very common mentality that is not realistic. Dr. Paley has said it's the same story over and over again- an ambitituous patient comes in and saids they're gonna work hard and rehab and stretch every day and give it 200%, but when they actually have to show up- almost all end up being potatoes and doing much less than they thought they were gonna do and be lazy. It's hard!

8cm is too much over wingspan since you can't always have your hands in your pockets and will be noticeable and your torso goes from looking fine at 170cm to "off" at 173cm IMO.

I couldn't put my finger on why I liked 170 more than 173, but this explained my subconscious reasoning perfectly. I too like 170cm much much more than 173.

I think you would need to discuss with your doctor and take more pics. Dr. DongHoon Lee does 8cm simultaneous safetly and sometimes he does 10cm. But he says you could aim for more with separate surgeries, so that you won't have complications and almost recover to 100% before surgery. But he also says it also depends at your body, your comitiment, your conditions and proportions. But don't get a big aim, or you could get frustrated, I want to go from 168 to 183, but for me 176-178 is very fine indeed. So don't give up, but be more conservative and listen to what your doctor says, although that doens't mean you can get you 173cm, just work hard at streatches and getting a good shape for surgery. Also the widder you are with muscles, the less werid it will look, so I recommend that you work out more

very unrealistic though. thats 15 cm. you'd need like literally 3 surgeries 3 years to reasonably acheive that

Do people really have problem reaching their pockets? I have seen dr.Lee say that it would not be a problem no matter how much you lengthen I mean logically you lengthen your legs right? Still your pants will be heigh/low waisted depending on how you wear them.

HMMMMM true....  ??? ??? ???

Well we need to check where in the bone is going to be lenghened and where the pocket is, if its upper the fracture, its fine, if its under, its bad. But all jeans have different pocket heights in each style, right? So I think you're right...

I think lengthening your legs has nothing to do with hands reaching the pocket, doctor usually lengthen at the middle. You will not wear your pants lower it will still rest in the same place. Look at Justin Bieber shirtless photos he wears his pants way lower than his underwear ( I acknowledge that those pants might be custom made)

I'm undergoing the LON tibia surgery RIGHT NOW. 3cm so far and every day since day one has been from a little to very painful with peripheral nerve pain.

All the patients around me are aiming for 7-8cm (tibia), only me for 6-6.5cm at first. But for whatever reason, deep down I thought to myself: If I was born of being 170 naturally (avg height in my country is 168), would height be important to me? and the answer is no I wouldn't care about it if that was the case. Like really I don't mind being shorter than other men, as long as I'm taller than most of the female human beings around my life, I'm happy.

So, probably I'll go with 5.5cm with this first surgery, because:
1. After this first surgery, I'll be taller than most of the women in my country, and considering I have other good characteristics (I'm confident that I do), dating wouldn't be a problem anyway
2. If I do another 7cm on the femur, I'll be taller than most of the women in countries I would ever travel to and all the girls I possibly like (I don't like girls are too taller than my original height no matter how much height from LLS I gain)
3. If I take the max risk and go for +14cm, my proportion would look a bit off, that would put me in a tall range in my country, but not really in countries I'll travel to anyway
4. As I'm feeling pain every day, I think that's a sign that I shouldn't take too much risk

What do you(s) think?

I would personally attempt 10 cm in total (169 final), if you do two segments: 5 cm in tibias and 5 cm in femurs. And lot's of physiotherapy.

Stay safe.
