Hey guys I've lengthened around 33mm in my femurs and I am feeling constant muscle weakness in my thighs. Walking has become more exhausting also.
I've stopped taking muscle relaxants for the past 2 days since I thought that was the cause. It however has not helped.
I walk almost an hour a day and stretch diligently. The weakness only started recently.
Did anyone else experience leg weakness during lengthening? Is it because of crutches, weaker muscle fibers due to lengthening, or something else?
Thanks!

Hey brother
I’m in second weak of my consolidation
I distracted 7.8 cm in total
Yes muscle weakness is normal.
Fatigue sets in huge way
You will be tired soon and I was also pushing it but remember mind wants to push but body can’t take it
I have been told repeatedly we hve 2 broken bones and body is using all energy to heal
So pace your self if you wish to achieve your goal and even after distraction wait till none consolidates you avoid fatigue
-
I don't think anyone HASN'T experienced muscle weakness. Totally normal.
-
My muscles were weak during the entirety of distraction and now that I’m only 5 days into consolidation they are still weak, however the improvement I’ve experienced already from not lengthening for 5 days is huge and I can feel the strength slowly returning in that I can walk with much less fatigue and with basically no discomfort. Seems very normal to have weakness.

Ah thanks guys. Good to know everyone's experiencing the same. It's just that I didn't feel too fatigued during the first 3cm, but the most recent 3mm has been frought with weakness.
How has everyone's wide legs progressed through distraction by the way? I'm stretching like no tomorrow, only to keep it stable, and I'm doing 0.5mm a day... Has anyone been able to distract with minimal wide legs? How did you do it. :)
Thanks!

I'm around 2.5cm and I don't have wide legs. It is hard to get my legs together though. It might depend on the surgeon's methodology for inserting the nail, and also the method. When I lengthen I try to keep my legs together and straight to prevent deformities.

Do you know if your doctor performed an ITB release on you? Betz doesn't do ITB releases which results in wide legs for a lot patients. Mine are still wide but slowly improving now in consolidation.
@Sirstretchalot it’s generally hard to reduce wide legs during lengthening once you get them but I was able to bring them in very slightly and have been told they go back to normal after lengthening.
-
I believe he does, I think he said so too. My ITB does not look tense/stretched so I'm pretty sure he does.
However I have no idea what that is.

ITB Release essentially punctures the band with micro holes to allow it to stretch much further. It lengthens for about 2-3cm and heals over time. You will probably experience wide legs a lot later than patients who don't do IT Band releases, starting at maybe at 4-5cm.
I really wish Betz did ITB release. My widelegs are unbearable. :/

Hi guys
Yes I distracted to 7.8
I had no wide legs or duck ass
I had strict regime of physio for 2 hours till 7 cm and I also had care taker who stretched me 4 times extra per day
Besides that diet was key
Paley also did ITB as he said I was v tight
This was truly my reason for success
Hope it helps

You may be experiencing over-worked muscles, due to walking for an hour everyday, it's good to challenge yourself and push new limits every week when you work out (progressive overload) but the muscles need time to recover, you NEED to take days off, the muscles get stronger on the rest period, not during the work out. take 2-3 days off where you only do stretches, I personally wouldn't do physical therapy every single day at your stage in lengthening, I would let my muscles rest and I didn't experience significant fatigue
-
I totally agree with the rest part
And progressive build up
I would rest totally on weekends.
Even now in consolidation I rest one day and push myself the next day then rest again
We have muscle memory so if we take it slow and listen to our body it will be a great result.
I tried to go back to swimming and thinking because it’s water and no gravity I started getting severe knee pain. When stopped pain was gone and rest let muscles recover.
So yes it’s combination as mentioned above

Thanks Ahd1978 and Movie, I'll take that brake. :)

I have no duckass, but extremely wide legs. In fact they started at 1.5cm, but Betz doesn't do ITB releases. Most patients who have had it, had very little problem with wide legs. You had even fewer problems because you worked hard as well. I'm considering asking Betz if I could do it with another doctor. ITB cannot be stretched, only released, so I'm worried if I'm able to narrow my legs at all. :/

Small update - I'm at approximately 3cm today and when I tried to walk this morning my legs were extremely tired. Looks like the next two cm are going to be really tough
