I don't mean like jogging for fun but being in competitive level.
Both height and athleticism matter equally. Choosing one over the other isn't an option.
What would be the wisest move to make?
-
Have to make a choice, simple as that.
If competing is your priority, obviously don't do LL. No way you're going to compete athletically better than previously

You have to choose. You simply can't have LL and the same athlethic hability at competitive level.
-
You are kinda asking an impossible question. There is no option 3. You either do this surgery or don’t. That being said I’m not really sure what you mean by competitive athleticism? Like do you mean college level sports, playing for fun, or being an elite sportsman. You can regain your “athletic” ability after a long time of hard work but there is a very good chance you will never be an elite sportsman (more so than usual lol).

I've clearly said above that choosing is not an option. It doesn't have to be better than previously, but as long as it's no devastating, that would be a good start.

Yeah pretty much I mean an elite sportsman or close to it. But definitely not for fun.

I have no.idea what u mean when u say choosing is not an option
Even doing nothing is making a choice
If you're an elite athlete whe the f**k do you want to get LL?
You sound too immature for LL

To accept your life with a bad height and continue with being competent in sports.

To accept your life with a bad height and continue with being competent in sports.
Then life would be incomplete without the height, man.

Do just 5 cm and hope to have a decent athletic recovery. It's what I am going to do, let's see how it goes lol
-
If you can be happy with competition at a a slightly lower level and don't go for more than 6 cm in the femur you caan have the best of both worlds imo.
-
BS go look at cyborg4life's channel. You can go back to pre LL athletic level or more, the question is will you put the effort after this gruesome experience ? Most go above and beyond during LL and not everyone has the mental toughness to keep going after so they say its impossible.

Yeah, that's the spirit I want to see here.

That being said, Cyborg is only a bodybuilder and he only did one leg.

I personally think if you get a good doctor and recover well you can come back better than you were with good training. If you like the competitive aspect of it than get the surgery done safely and smartly than train to be the best you can be.
-
So far, I would say it depends on the sport as well. I am already back to play sports like basketball and tennis pretty much the same pre-surgery, but soccer is a different story... Not sure if I can ever get back to play soccer like I used to be, but if not then, well... I am just gonna accept it. I like playing basketball more anyway lol

No way. If you were training at a competitive level before surgery, then don't expect to be better afterwards.

Yeah, for sure. I'm sure it doesn't affect us playing chess at all.

I mean tennis + basketball is not the same thing as chess though lol I have no issue playing these sports so far and I barely got back to my normal activities ( one month of training). I am pretty sure, it will get better from now on.

It’s an extremely binary choice, man. You will not ever return 100% to your old athleticism. You can do sports, but if you were dominant in them before then consider yourself at most an enthusiast or hobbyist afterwards. Maybe something upper body dominant can remain top notch like boxing or rowing but otherwise you will never return to full form.
Sorry, but this is just a ridiculous thing to debate. Pick one and only one. You’ll understand better once you’ve actually had the surgery and realize your legs will never be the same again. Someone like me who only weight lifts casually for minor mass and has no other sports in his life, will be fine. But I can’t imagine doing a competitive sport seriously after this. My hamstrings and quads are tight as a tug rope permanently now.

As post 8cm fem CLL I agree with Mr Hobbit

I’m only at 5cm out of 8cm and already I can tell I won’t be returning to normal athleticism after. The idea that 5cm is safe for returning to form is not true at all. Any consequential lengthening at all and you’re risking your athleticism! However for me and others that’s not an issue since I wasn’t even remotely athletic before. ;D

Most of the doctors I have spoken to have said that if you lengthen conservatively it's not the lengthening that is the issue it is the prolonged period of inactivity. If you have extensive resources, determination and don't lengthen much you should recover very well

Sounds great. Does that mean if a patient lengthens below 7cm and do the rehab according to what doctors said, then he or she can still participate in high intensity sports, such as basketball or football, after the heal?

Yes, I also believe in this. All of these people who are telling you that its impossible to recover is because they are not into playing sports even before LL, and the fact that they are satisfying with their current situation will not help with the recovery. I have been back to my normal sport activities, and I could see the improvement by the week to be honest with you. I could jump up 3-4 steps on the staircase with 1 leg already which I was not able to do 1 month ago. This is due to the fact that I practise everyday whether jumping, sprinting, playing sports... It is not because I have to, but because I love it. Not to mention that I took almost an entire year of 2020 doing nothing but sitting on my ass.
-
I think anything above 4 - 5 might be difficult to fully recover from. Age, genetics, proportions, amount lengthened, physio, starting height and training will all be important variables.
-
You can still participate in high intensity sport after lengthening if you do it recreationally. Competitive level? Forget about it, you'll get creamed. Doesn't matter if you do 4cm or 7 cm.

You wouldn't know because you never did 4cm. How would you explain Sweden being able to compete in Taekwondo even though he did 7.5cm on tibias?

Sweden doesn't even had straight legs after LL and needed painkillers if he ran or did joking for big distances.
I don't know what he did with tae kwondo but I am sure he wasn't in the same level as before LL.
Kilokahn is completely right but some of you are really delusional and want to believe lies before doing LL or think that you will be the one in 1000 cases that will be very close to his before LL condition.
In reality, no sane person would believe that after a so invasive amd hard procedure will be as good as before and also almost noone cares so much for athletic abilities except some who at the end don't even do LL and just talk here theoretically.

Indeed. I firmly believe that the modern LL is far more advanced than before, in which people who do it nowadays can still do whatever they want to do, especially in exercises. And maybe when LL gets more popular, just like other cosmetic surgeries, more people with height neurosis will benefit from this. Hopefully this surgery becomes a mainstream in Asia once it's been scientifically proven that it is almost zero risk.

If they mastered LL and people who done LL can still become serious athletes who can compete at Olympic games, it will probably change how societies view it.

This forum is so weird, if you are that compititive sport man to the point where it can make up for life quality in term of status, money, social circle, girls then you don't need LL
But yeah no sportman who got in to the point will came here and asking repeating asking stupid question spreading his insecure on this forum

I think you are the weird one. You completely miss what getting taller is all about that you even think just because someone is successful and talented, then they won't need to look good.

Hey guys, I want to ask. Hypothetically, if I do LL and compete in professional MMA. Would I be at a bigger disadvantage than this guy?

I'm genuinely curious if LL will cripple me to the point that a one-armed man will be physically superior than me.
