Title: Planning for surgery in Jan 2022, Greece GNail Giotikas
Post by: ambitious on December 19, 2021, 10:40:44 AM
Hi All,

I have been reading this forum over few years and now I have decided to do my femur lengthening with Dr. Giotikas using GNail. Is there anyone else who is looking at doing in the same time frame with Dr. G? It would be happy have a fellow LL mate to gang up with in the journey.

Sure, I will write a diary soon once out of the next couple of days.  I am 163 cm, aiming for 8 - 9. Doctor used 13mm nail for me and it can carry upto 95kg per leg so I am feeling confident to walk.

The surgery wasn't painful at all?

I heard/read that 13 mm nails are hard to fit without reaming too much .
How is it possible that at 163cm you could fit it ?
I understand that bone and height are not necessarily strictly related but they are to a certain degree so I wonder how common is to fit them

was using 13mm nail, no issue. Please check with Doc to see if your bone is wide enough to use 13mm

Hey all,

Sorry for delayed response. I am good currently around 6cm lengthening. I have had few issues (not any major complications) and also busy with starting back in to my work so couldn't start on my diary. I will at some point do a write up about my experience and opinion about this option.

Anyone have any thoughts on finding a good place to stay in Athens that is cheaper than Montaza hotel (default budget option with Giotikas)?

I tried putting on handicap filters on airbnb and it resulted in no searches, not sure what's my next best bet to find a place without stairs or other dangerous things

Isn't the Montaza Hotel package already inclusive of 2 daily meals and someone to help you click? That seems like a great deal for €1600 per month (or whatever it is)

Yeah come to think of it 55 euros *30=1650 euros per month + you get the nurse support + the hotel staff to help with other nonmedical things. I think I might bite the bullet of the cost and stay at Montaza. Anyone found anything so much cheaper that might be worth it?

Converting 1650 euros to USD its like 1800 USD per month. SO maybe total monthly costs will be 2500 USD

I think board costs a bit more though

"You will find below the prices for the room, We have to inform you that as long as you will use the wheelchair you need to stay at the handicap room.

The 10% discount is applied for stays more than two week on bb basis.

The price does not include the residence tax which is 1,50 euro per day

I read in another user's diary that the €1650 was inclusive of meals and support for clicking. Maybe double check with them. But I imagine you will need to order your own groceries each week anyway, which would probably be €100 or less? Also factor in uber/taxis to and from the PT centre. (I'm guessing the hotel has its own gym so might be able to save a bit on that?)
