I am also an expat in the US but i come from central america, i´m 161 cm.

I know heightism is bad in the US but i am going to give you this link ....

I come from China. The heightism in China is the worst all over the world and my English level is only CET-6.
Can't describe all of ppl in my country but now men under 180cm and even 185cm are somehow discriminated by women and at present some 185cm tall guys are feeling inferior cuz they think they are not tall enough LOL.
I was ever sworn to kill myself cuz of my height by one guy online who said he was suicidal with only 170+cm tall height.
Dunno how to deal with height dysphoria induced from this but gradually I have got over that kind of rude word.

I find it hard to believe that men 5-6+ inches taller than the national average are receiving serious height discrimination for being short, but then again, I haven't been there. Still, it seems weird to me.

I’m originally from China and I lived in one of the tallest provinces where average height is 5 9 or 175 cm. (In some provinces the average height is only 169 cm). Almost no one around me considered 180 cm short, and we considered 185 cm tall. Many people do think 175 cm is a bit short despite it’s the average height, but still not short enough to receive height discrimination. Under 170 cm is a different story though. Some say males under 170 cm are disabled.

It's hard to tell if one's 169 or 170. Both figures are too close. 169 is considered slightly taller in some provinces.

True. People in different provinces can be very different.

China's online forums are crowded with insanities and fantasies so O.C stloads of users won't admit they are actually under 170cm or even 180cm.
But Internet can kinda reveal the reality so it does make sense when it comes to how heightism China is being.
