Title: Tibia LON with dr. sarin - Feb11th 2022
Post by: Tinku on February 23, 2022, 01:56:10 PM
I have done my surgery on TIBIA on 11Feb, 2022 at Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute .
Surgery got started at 1pm and completed by 4pm.
They performed surgery using Spinal anesthesia, got anxious as they were performing while I was awake, which is normal.
I was able to move toes after surgery and had moderate  pain on legs on the night of surgery day.
I had to stay for 4 days in hospital, had soft diet. This 4 days I was on epidural, later moved to sarin's guest house.
Now I'm on 5th day of lengthening phase, turning 1mm per day, taking ultraset and flexora- D tablets to avoid moderate pain.

Hi Osho,

Congratulations on the surgery. Hope everything is smooth and wish you a speedy recovery! What type of external devices does Dr. Sarin use and is also Physio included in the duration of your hospital stay? How much do you plan on lengthening?
I also plan to undergo LON Tibias. I will be following your diary closely.

No physio will be available during hospital stay (4 days) but in guest house you will find 2 physios to help you with day to day  exercises.
Physio will start from 8th day of surgery. Here ilizarov external frames are used. I'm planning for 7-8 cms.

Would 7-8cm be alittle too excessive? I heard the safe limit is 5cm and the absolute max is 6CM. On the other hand, I heard that the absolute limit you can lengthen on each bone is 20% and you might need a Achille Tendon release. Maybe it’s different for external frames in your case as I heard you can lengthen alittle more with the ilizarov frames.

You can lengthen upto 22.5 % of bone length.
I'm doing (extrenal +LON), so 7-8cms is not a problem.
I got my xray today after 10 days of lengthening, got lengthen 9mm.
We see callous formation already in the gap...here onwards I will turn 1.25mm/day.

Lengthening at 1.25mm/Day seems excessive. The daily lengthening rate on the Tibias is 0.75mm based on my anecdotal research.
Will you be posting X-Ray's here along your journey?

Limb Lengthening with Dr.Sarin the Butcher of Delhi?

Good Luck mate, you'll need it. I wouldn't set foot in an Indian "leg lengthening clinic/butcher shop if you payed me."

Hopefully you are Indian & not a foreigner.. maybe he will treat his own countrymen better.

This 4 days I was on epidural, later moved to sarin's guest house.

surely by guest house you mean the hotel [http://stepinnhotels.com/]? based upon my research the guest house has been relinquished and replaced with a one star hotel at Gurgaon [not inclusive] with limited services and zero amenities one would reasonably expect; like toilet paper.

general anesthesia would have given you a superior experience at the operative theater; and it was advertised so I'm genuinely surprised the anesthesia team didn't accommodate you in this way. consider that next time should you elect to engage at femoral lengthening using internal modalities.

Sorry...I was busy with my work schedules, will update my progress soon. Right now, I left crutches and walking on my own without any support. I did 9cm lengthening had slight balerina(now it got fixed). I had good callous in both legs by the time frames got off.
I didn't had any complication, everything went smooth. I took almost 6 1/2 months to walk on my own without any support.

you aint wrong

1. 9 cm on tibia - tibias now longer than femurs like an alien
2. "slight ballerina" - 6 cm ballerina at least
3. needs massive achilles lengthening - mediocre athleticism for life
4. non union left fibula - compromised stability of left ankle, easy running is out of the question
5. misaligned tibias pointing outwards - x legs

fun stuff
