Title: Patient who died in Athens
Post by: scandinavian15 on June 27, 2022, 10:42:38 PM
Hello.

I am planning to do this surgery and have been reading different diaries and posts in this group for a while now.

I know a guy passed in Athens after an fatal incident of PE. That is tragic and I cannot imagne the pain his close ones went through. My thougths are with them.

I am curious to know WHY that happened. Since this happened far out, he had a weight bearing nail AND he was VERY active. Does anyone have any information? I would be happy. Kind of concerning.

I am not sure about the Athens guy but there is one confirmed LL death in Korea due to DVT/PE as well. According to sources that went into this case the major reason why he died was because the hospital failed to spot the early signs of DVT (there are elevator videos about this and the Doctors just pondered why the guy fainted and just waited for the ambulance to take him away) and the patient was hospitalized couple of days after surgery then passed away shortly after.

The hospital doesn't specialize in LL like the big 3 in Korea ( Dr. Lee, Dr. Lim, Dr. Hwang ). I would say the biggest factor that can cause this is the hospitals inexperience in dealing with both pre/post operative care that can drastically prevent incidents like DVT, but there could also be luck based as all surgery ( but this is extremely unlikely - fatality is probably in 1/5000 ).

DVT is a clot in deep veins (often in the legs), PE is when that clot moves to lungs. PE can kill you if untreated.

Don’t be silly, of course there is a treatment plan for PE. Doctor’s won’t just leave you to die if you have an embolism. Usually they put you on medication and monitor the situation closely, sometimes in severe cases you have to be rushed into emergency surgery, but there definitely is a protocol.
