Title: The pros/cons/risks of complications with the various Nails?
Post by: Excal on July 09, 2014, 02:53:53 AM: There's lots of nails out there, and I don't know if there's one single "best" nail or not.

So what are the pros and cons of the various nails? e.g. PRECISE vs. Guichet Nail vs. Betz Nail, or any others out there.

Which nails have the best track record in terms of risk of complications, which nails offer the longest lengthening, and any other relevant questions.

A patient just had one of her screws start popping out in her tibia, and required surgery to replace the screw in both legs. It definitely wasn't her fault since she hardly walked. Also, another patient before her had the same thing to her a few months ago.

This is coming from a Paley patient, and I don't believe he's being honest at all here. Complications do happen, and PRECICE 2 is not the perfect nail. The nerve decompression surgery was also done on a patient who was following protocol but just had an unfortunate turn of events because of his body's reaction to femur lengthening.

It was complications galore for both of them, it wasnt lengthening and they eventually had to cut it short and got like 4-5cm out of it only. My memory is abit hazy but if I remember correctly Ellipse Technology just kept giving one patient the run around and Dr Lee really couldn't do anything to help them

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, its been a while since I read their respective diaries
