Title: What determines when you can get internals removed?

Is it purely x-rays or do people like to wait a certain amount of time to be safe? 

What if theoretically your bones consolidated really fast and at 8 months the x-rays said you were good to go.  Would you still want to wait because this is so soon?

I would wait 2-3 month just to be sure.
