I am currently 3 weeks post op. My operation was on 21st February in Sakarya (2 hours outside of Istanbul). I am 163/164cm - 55kg and aiming for 5-6.5cm.
I'm going to give all the updates from the day of my arrival. Originally my operation was meant to be done by Dr Yuksel Yurttas but i changed my mind.
February 17th: I arrived in Istanbul and was picked up at the airport by Dr Yuksel Yurttas' team and taken straight to the hotel. The team was a lot of help. I met the physio team and everything seemed good and I was ready for my operation.
February 18th: I went for my consultation with Dr Yurttas but a few things put me off. Whilst waiting outside his office, another patient was ahead of me waiting to see Dr Yurttas, instead of helping and considering this patients situation which was clearly bad, the Dr didn't even take the patient into his room, he simply came out into the hallway, made a few jokes whilst the patient was struggling to stand and then sent him on his way.
Then, it was time for my consultation, Dr Yurttas simply looked at the x-ray and said femur? no, tibia? yes. Precice? impossible. LON tomorrow? done. I asked him to explain why precice wouldn't be possible and it made sense and I was fine doing LON on tibias. We agreed to doing the operation the next morning but again. I was left unimpressed as if it weren't for my own questions, this consultation would've only lasted 5 minutes. He didn't explain the process, any of the possible complications or anything unless I questioned him. He did no test for flexibility or muscle even after having told him I lost 10kg before coming here.
I got back to the hotel and was still confident about the operation, despite Dr Yurttas lack of detail, I knew he was still very experienced in this field. I rested in my room until the evening but that's when my mind was changed. As mentioned on my previous diary; I found out things that were completely unacceptable therefore I immediately messaged the team and told them I am no longer considering the surgery which at this point was only 18 hours away.
-
Man I'm glad you got rid of dr. yuksel but dr uysal ??? like him noob is a surgeon. someone who makes a femoral lon. I'm not trying to undermine your diary, I just haven't heard good things about dr uysal. I hope you don't have a bad experience. I wish the best for you 8)
-
As mentioned on my previous diary which i have discontinued as it has become irrelevant. The information I was told about Dr Yurttas that led me to change my mind can only be shared via PM.
February 19th: I messaged AFA as they were highly recommend to me. I wasn't aware of this company but I was aware of Dr Uysal. I knew he was an experienced Dr so I asked for further information.
I was a lot more impressed by AFA than Dr Yurttas team as I received quick responses and was given a consultation with the Dr over video call on the same night. I initially talked to Ozzy who took all my details and questioned me about my goals etc. This conversation lasted around an hour which was already longer than I had talked to anyone at the previous place.
Later that day, I was given the link to join the zoom meeting with Dr Uysal, once again I was impressed as unlike Dr Yurttas, this conversation lasted maybe 40 minutes and Dr Uysal explained everything to me as well as to my dad. He answered all the questions and gave extra key details that were needed.
20th February: I was picked up by the AFA team from the previous Dr's hotel and taken to Sakarya where I first was taken to the hospital for tests which were a lot more extensive than the ones done with Dr Yurttas and then once that was done I had my face to face consultation with Dr Uysal. He checked my x-ray and his opinion was in line with Dr Yurttas; that my bones are too narrow for precice (but this was already expected) and therefore I'd be doing LON on Tibia but as per my request and the Drs recommendation, i'd have a full circular external frame and not just monorail as told by Dr Yurttas. Then, Dr Uysal also checked my bones and conditioning himself. He made me do some physical tests which he said were fine and that my proportions were ideal. He gave the operation the green flag and I was taken straight to the hospital to stay 1 night in advance before the surgery.
-
LOL! Did they praise AFA? LOL who praised ? how many people praised ? Also Ozzy?. This is just an ad. You praise dr uysal a lot.
AFA-LİVELİFETALLER-WANNABETALLER STAY AWAY FROM THEM ;)

February 21st: I woke up for my operation, i had no nerves, I was confident and calm the entire time knowing i had dodged a bullet. I was taken into the surgical room and given anaesthesia and then I don't remember anything until waking up at 5pm - 7 hours after my operation had begun.
I woke up freezing, shivering, even my teeth were rattling. I wasn't in any pain, the Dr came in once i woke up and checked if I could feel my legs, everything was good. I stopped shivering after 15 mins and went back to sleep. I woke up a couple hours later, once again in no pain, just a little discomfort but this was moreso the hospital bed not my legs.
February 22nd: I woke up very weak. I couldn't lift my legs or my body. My carer told the nurses about this and I was soon told i have pneumonia and will be placed on antibiotics. The most i could during these 3 days was sit on the side of the bed and lift my legs to stretch. I wasn't able to walk at all and anytime I'd eat, i'd throw it up within 5 minutes. I pretty much slept the entire time and only woke up to eat and to be put on meds.
February 27th: I recovered from the pneumonia and felt a lot stronger. I also realised the hospital food was completely nutritionless so I started ordered fast food instead which gave me a lot more energy. I started walking this day (5 days post op) and everything became a lot easier. I quickly started making progress from 5 steps to 50 steps at a time however the only negative thing was, anytime I was in a seated position, i'd be in excruciating pain as it would feel like the frame is weighing 50kg down on my legs. It felt like my legs would rip off.
March 3rd: I left Sakarya to move into the hotel in Istanbul for recovery. At this point I didn't have any pain, felt completely energised and strong. However once again, as Istanbul is 2 hours away, once I was put in the wheelchair in the van; in a seated position. 30 mins into the journey my legs felt like they would rip off again, i was in agony. Luckily I had my parents with me so they'd hold my legs out straight in a laying position to ease the pain.
Once I got to the hotel in the afternoon, I got off the van but was unable to walk because of the sitting pain. We checked in and I went to my room. I rested for 2 hours before going to my first physio session. The physio session was okay as by this point my legs had recovered and I was able to walk again. I had no issues during physio other than some pain when bending my knees.
-
Current day - 18th March: I have lengthened almost 1cm as i only lengthen 3 times a day = 0.75mm a day.
I have done 2 weeks of physio, i am able to walk completely fine with my walker. I barely have any pain. My sleep is good. I wake up a few times from being uncomfortable but hardly ever from being in pain. i have no complication yet but of course I'm only at 1cm so far.
I've also had my first x-ray done. (Just tried uploading it but it says imgur is unavailable in your region) so if anyone can let me know how else i can upload them.

what was the cost with afa? what is your lengthening goal and your current height ? why you didn’t choose femur?
$19 000 for the surgery (includes up to 10 days stay in the hospital instead of only 4-7 + and a carer)
$1500-$3000 per month for accommodation (includes 2 hours physio everyday + bandage change twice a week + X-Ray twice a month)
Total= $23 500 - $28 000
My lengthening goal is 5.5-6cm for this tibia surgery (currently at 1.2cm) and, i'm doing 6-7cm on femurs next.

DR Uysal noob is a surgeon like HALİL BULDU - YUNUS - YUKSEL. If he was a good doctor, he would be in Istanbul. But in place like Sakarya lol. He also performed only 1 cosmetic surgery and for the first time in the history of sakarya lengthening surgery done. Then he learned that there was money in this business and started doing it secretly. There is AFA now. Normally they have to starve, but stupid people go to these butchers. A friend of mine talked to dr uysal face to face. He is a greedy person who wants to make money. He wanted to be like Dr. Halil and they set the AFA or begged to be in such a company. Dr uysal doing ilizarov for money ;D Also, for your information, he is doing this work illegally ;) For example dr halil is not in charge of any hospital and has his own place But Dr uysal is doing these things secretly. He is a hospital worker.
actually, nothing changes even if you are real, my friend. You are like QuarkSoup wannabetaller patient. He made a lon femur and says he has no pain, sleeps comfortably and is very firm. He even accused someone with a bone infection of being a liar.
Human life is not a simple thing. I'm saying it for the last time. Livelifetaller - Wannabetaller - AFA and dr yuksel stay away from these.
Also, this person was praising Dr Yuksel and wanted to have surgery on him. Do not believe what such a fool writes.
-
@Werewolf - You talk a lot for someone who hasn't even done the surgery. You're saying you accuse people of a fake diary if they have no pain but I have no pain, I know other patients who also didn't feel any pain until they got to 3-4cms. If you have never had the surgery then how would you know what we feel?
Also Dr Uysal is in Sakarya because he is contracted to work at that hospital. By your logic if a Dr doesn't have their own hospital or live in a large city then they're not good? He is 2 hours away yet still visits patients, I have met Doctors who live 20 minutes away from their recovery hotel yet never ever visit their patients.
-
Also Dr Uysal is in Sakarya because he is contracted to work at that hospital.
LOL GOTCHA ! There's no way a customer would know that. You are definitely a AFA dog ;D There is nothing to talk about anymore. The truth has been revealed.
-

Why wouldn't I know this? You think I didn't ask the Doctor and AFA why the hospital is 2 hours away and not in Istanbul? All of us patients know he's contracted to that hospital, you're acting like this should be some big secret that patients shouldn't know about.
-
I'm guessing the same thing happened to you as me. You went there and Yuksels patients told you to go to AFA instead. That's why you're there.
I was told the same thing by them but I'm not going to AFA, there's no diaries, nothing to judge this doctor mustafa on but good luck to you.
-
Hey good luck with it!
Were your both bones too narrow for precice?
Or just tibia?
-

I think I was there.
There's a lot of trash talking but all of these Turkish doctors are the same, regardless of which one you go to. I had a good experience so I can only talk about mine.
I didn't go to AFA cause apparently the doctor is doing Limb Lengthening in secret which I wasn't really comfortable of.
-
so many fake diaries here, you cant tell which is true and which is not anymore

Both tibia and femurs too narrow unfortunately.

I myself didn't wanna put this reason out there but as it's been said then yes, I was also told to come here to AFA by the patients at Dr Yurttas' hotel.
But idk where this thing that Dr Uysal is doing these surgeries in secret has come from? because he's not in Istanbul?
-

If anyone wants to accuse me of being a fake diary, PM me first and ask for any proof at all, you name it, i'll prove it.

You don't need to justify yourself. At the end of the day, you're breaking your bones to do this surgery. This should just be used for insight for others. At the end of the day, everyone should take their own 2 cents whilst doing research and consultations with doctors and determine what's best for themselves.

Lon with the ilizarov ring? Doing this in 2023... I've heard that Dr Uysal is a greedy, money lover person. I suggest you pay attention. Good luck on your journey.

Ignore the troll, they just make things up.

They just make things up.
Yes man, we all lie. We said the same thing in Dr. Yuksel yurttas now you agree. Mustafa Uysal is no different from him. An egotistical and money lover inexperienced surgeon who thinks he's a good surgeon. He's new to this job (cll) even his first patient was begging for clients on this forum. Even attacking other diaries saying my doctor is better than yours. He was arguing with Halil's patients, at least they are no longer on this forum. Livelifetaller - wannabetaller - AFA this forum got disgraced. That's why they are looking for customers on instagram. I will not take into account the words of someone like Dr Yuksel Yurttas who is about to have surgery.
-
Actually I have done a research on this dude a few months ago and I remember that his expertise are mainly knees and leg muscles problems. He issued a lot of studies on this matter, and I have found only one about leg lengthening regarding grafts…He probably is not a bad doctor dont get me wrong, but I wouldnt have wanted to end up in hands of opportunist with almost no expertise in this limb lengthening field. He only attended a program in the Paleys institute.

I knew I was taking a risk with Dr Yurttas, I don't feel that way with Dr Uysal. The big red flag with Dr Yurttas was that even his own patients told me not to do it there and instead go to AFA.
I can't 100% recommend Dr Uysal as i'm still in the lengthening process but as of right now, I am happy, the surgery was done successfully, I have no issue with alignment, missing nails or anything to do with the fixator. Also, as far as I know, no other patient here is unhappy.

From what I have researched, I know the Dr is an orthopaedics expert. His experience with limb lengthening, I am not certain about... but there is no better research than talking to the patients themselves, not only are the patients here happy but also patients who are currently doing their lengthening in other places; have told me they wished they came to AFA instead.
-
bro fk these people , 90% of em havent even done LL. they dont realize that everyones body reacts differently to pain, For some the pain is really bad and for some its a cakewalk
-
have told me they wished they came to AFA instead.
Yeah kk. We believe you;D AFA butcher company amazing everyone wants it. LMAO
How much does the company pay you? Does Mustafa uysal give you a bj or are you giving a bj to him?

If I knew I would have this knock knee complication with Yuksel, I would have done it at Giotikas, but my second choice would be a reputable doctor in Turkey. Yuksel Yurttas is a terrible doctor, and a liar at that.

I posted that for another patient who isn't on the forum. I have never been anywhere near union myself. Looking at my last x-ray from 7 weeks... I obviously didn't form a union in 3 weeks.

how's your status Sir? may i ask why u choose to go with tibias first?

how's your status Sir? may i ask why u choose to go with tibias first?
I am at 5.1cm now and I will finish at 5.5cm. I have had absolutely no pain at all, the entire 3 months. However, I MIGHT have severe ballerina, I will find out on my removal date, 29th May. Other than that, this was very easy for me.
I chose tibias first because it's recommended to do Tibia before Femur if you're doing both.
-
Thanks for the update, GrowTow. I want to understand your experience with any infections.
What's your report on pin tract infections with LON tibias and how easily/difficult is it to manage it? What was your pinsite care routing?
Also, what's the PTI/deep infection rate at the center?
-

We get our bandages changed twice a week (every 3/4 days). And from what I know, only 1 patient got an infection. So 1/15-20 patients.
-
And how easily would you say is the pinsite infection resolved?
The thing is I have read about infections and how big a risk it is for LON procedures. But, from all the conversations with actual patients, I see, unless it is downright ignored, it doesn't become a problem.
What's your opinion?

They take infections very seriously. Pinsites are thoroughly cleaned and redressed for 1 hour every 3 days. The patient that did get an infection, it was seen right away and she was given antibiotics until the infection was gone.
I can't say that there will be no chance of infection but I can 100% say it is impossible to get a serious infection here as all the physios will see it in the early stages.

Good luck man, I just heard AFA today from a customer here and wants to go to AFA (but because the cheaper price)

Any update?

it seems like you finished your first goal good luck man
-
Any update?
Completed 5.3cm on Tibia with ease, felt absolutely no pain the entire 3 months but I had a little bit of ballerina which somehow got much worse after removal when usually it's supposed to decrease.
As a result, I decided to do an achilles release after 2 weeks of no progress in my dorsiflexion post removal surgery.
Present day, My left leg feels completely perfect, strong, flexible and the ballerina has practically gone. But my right leg is still healing, not able to fully extend or bear weight without severe nerve pain (12 days post op).
-
5.3 is good around 2 inches but why didnt u stop when u got ballerina?
how long do u have to wait before walking after achiles release?
-

how long do u have to wait before walking after achiles release?
My ballerina got really bad around 4.2cm so I stopped lengthening for 5 days, it completely went but came back once I started lengthening again so I thought once I do the removal surgery, it would easily go again.
And, I can fully weightbear on my left foot but not my right yet, I think I just need 1 more week and I will be able to stand on both, after that I think I will need just 1 more week to walk with crutches. As, before the achilles release, I walked with crutches whilst having ballerina and my legs felt strong and my balance was good.

Don't believe these advertiser paid whores. Stay away from livelifetaller - wannabetaller - afa - yuksel Yurttas in Turkey. Dr Mustafa uysal is a low quality doctor. He is a money lover and makes such working girls advertise himself. It has crippled more than 100 Asian people. Many of his patients suffered excruciating pain. See videos by "disabled of limb lengthening surgery". There are places like Telegram. Have a nice day.

Lol, what are you talking about? Crippled 100 people? I think you're talking about LiveLifeTaller, since I've been here from February 2023, Dr Mustafa and AFA haven't crippled anyone. I'd love to see some evidence of your bs claims. Also, nobody has felt excruciating pain either, you have never done the surgery, if you did, you'd realise it's not as painful as you'd imagine.
-
give me any proof that Uysal had ever made his patients be paralysis or just shut the f up,let me tell you man
DR Lee he is the best doctor who can do the surgery in Korea right?but actually two years ago CCTV had ever report there is a his patien got worse
he is a nice doctor DR Lee i know but we had reported that if i got enough money i would choose Dr Lee too
and you mtfk i am sad that doctor Lee will have a patient like u do not have any proof but spread the word
that can represent what kind of man you are

Tried using crutches for the first time 2 days ago, I realised I don't even need them. I can walk completely unassisted, my balance is my only weakness right now.
Other than that, my recovery is all good, I still wake up with tight muscles so I can't walk unassisted in the morning but by 1pm I can walk by myself every easily.
Doctor check up was yesterday, he said my condition is good and that I can leave in 2 weeks, also confirmed that I am fine to come back in October to do femurs.

Hmm
I only speak for myself. Luckily I had absolutely no pain, but of course some others struggled to get much sleep and needed painkillers everyday.
