So Dinaric Alps is a country... Nice study.

So Dinaric Alps is a country... Nice study.
It's a translation error. I do not speak English well.
Dinaric Alps is a mountain range in southern Europe covering parts of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Albania. Despite the name, they are separated from the Alps.
are regions of the world with the biggest stockings sorry for my mistakes!
-
I don't think Brazil's average is that tall.

Can you post the link to these statistics please?
Fitting the Task to the Man, 1987 (for heights in USA and Japan)
Eurostat Statistical Yearbook 2004 (for heights in Germany)
Netherlands Central Bureau for Statistics, 1996 (for average heights)
Mean Body Weight, Height, and body mass index, United States 1960 - 2002
UK Department of Health - Health Survey for England
Statistics Norway, Conscripts, by height, Per cent
Manuel's Website ..
some references you can find in the Wiki,
to ensure the translation I am not talking to use the wikipedia just to look for the references indicated the. some references are sadly outdated, as those in Brazil reported as 1.70 of the average research of 1989 - but currently it is already 1.75 in general and 1.77 in metropolitan regions research in 2016

Are height distributions left-skewed? While I don't doubt the true average for Americans is probably 5'10, I do feel like I see among young people more people who are 6ft+ than people I see under 5'8, though maybe it's just because larger people are easier to notice?

Lol at Brazil, Italy, Greece and Spain. Could not be more wrong.

Lol at Brazil, Italy, Greece and Spain. Could not be more wrong.
For Greece and Italy is nor wrong at all.
For spain it is too much, Spaniards are shorter than both Greeks and Italians.
For Brazil I don't know but I think the real height must be 2-3 cm more.

You mean 2-3cm less?
Because I don't think brazilians are that tall in average.

2-3cm more than 1.69 which says the survey.
I don't think that the average Brazilian is not even 1.71.

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant the first post data.
Yeah, Brazilians are probably around 1,73m average, depends a LOT on the region since Brazil is pretty big.

Since I have been in Belgium I can tell you that the flemish (the tallest part of Belgium according to studies) average is no more than 176-77 cm (absolute max 178)
most average are overestimated
they were exactly the same as french, if not shorter. I was chocked because I really believed they were giants
so the 181,5 cm of average make me laugh
I also have been in Macedonia. They weren't taller than French
I dont understand why French have the reputation of short guys (I noticed that many english and eastern european believe it and it come from Napoleonian wars), while in my experience this is not the case. Norwegian, irish, belgian, macedonian, albanian, english, swiss are not taller from my experience and if they are this is about 4cm at best. Albanian and turkish are clearly under french average
of course, this is only what I have seen with my eyes, so no scientific proof. But in that list czech are probably the most accurate from my experience
In the future I hope to visit Netherlands, Lithuania, Slovakia, Poland, Belarus, Serbia, Ethiopia and if possible South Sudan (but it looks at bit too expensive and difficult) to have my own opinion. Travelling in Europe is cheap, so let's do it.
it seems that European people are all insecure, even more English or American, so making something good will be difficult. But some average are good, for exemple something between 174,5 and 177 is probably true for France. Under that this is too low, and above this is too high.
Studies showed the Dinka-Nuer average as 176 cm, if you live in UK, Australia or the USA you can meet the diaspora to have your opinion. This is not the only ethnicity to be quite tall in Africa : Wolof, Tutsis, Masai, etc
-
So Dinaric Alps is a country... Nice study.
Yea, absolute . And I don't understand how the Bosnian/Croatian/slovenian/serbian average can be 181 (it seems already overestimated in my opinion) according to studies and the dinaric alps average be 186 ?
-
also I'm wondering, for Spain they made their study only in Madrid ?
-
http://www.tallerheels.com/am-i-tall.html
Hong Kong 171 ???
Spain 178 ???
Korean people taller than Azeris or Iranian People ???
Lithuanian 176,5 ??? (they look taller) so turkish people about the same average as lithuanian ???
Taiwan 172 ???
it seems that developed asian countries (Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong) overestimate their average quite much

I mentioned that I erred the title of the topic, the correct one would be regions of the world with the highest stockings in height.
These studies are done with real measurements not asking the height, for example in Brazil the mandatory enrollment of all 18 year olds is made annually and the actual measurements are taken, the current regional studies show a very large growth mainly in the South region of Brazil. brazil where colonies are german, italian polonais, the means are between 1.74 and 1.77m and average of Brazil everything is in 1.75m.
In common sites will say the average of the Brazilian is between 1.69-1.70 but they are research of the 80's.
also on common sites with outdated surveys show U.S.A height
as 1.75 (5'9) but we know that regionally is not exactly so.
The average of the spain is smaller to return of 1.71 but in madrid the average is bigger,
Really ? you are questioning surveys that measure a large part of the population, for a simple visual experience, remember that the average is the value of sum is division by total, if there is a region 2 groups, a group of people with 1.70m and another group of 1.90m the average will be 1.80m even if you have very few people with exactly 1.80m (5''11)
-
and logic that has outdated values, the dates are next, surveys with more than 18 years have much greater margin of error
-

Wrong, i'm Brazilian and 5'10(16 years) and the average size for my friends are 5'10 to 6ft ::)

Wrong, i'm Brazilian and 5'10(16 years) and the average size for my friends are 5'10 to 6ft ::)
My friends age are 16 to 19. And they fathers are 5'7 to 5'9 (adult male average height in Brazil)
-
My father are 5'8 he is the average son of my grampa(he was 5'5 when young, now 5'3) and the more taller brother of my father are 5'10 and the more short are 5'6 ;)
-
Turkey no reason in this list :(
then let me tell you that it is 1.74 cm. and now I'm about 6 cm short. I hope I catch up in a year. Note: I am using google translate
-
Wrong, i'm Brazilian and 5'10(16 years) and the average size for my friends are 5'10 to 6ft ::)
You can't just use a small sample size of your friends/family and extrapolate that to the entire country of Brazil. This is alarmingly common, its pretty scary. Using your method I could assume everybody is 6'0+ because of my cousins and uncles/aunts, my dad is 6'1-6'2 so most Americans must be 6'2 or taller!

For what reason people in Madrid would be so much taller ? this is totally wrong
but andalusian can be a bit different
-
It's an endless debate and it seems that each country have a different methodology so it's useless ... but Turkish are surely under that
-
In Poland height jumped to about 179cm in only 20 years.
-
In the south of Brazil the average size of a caucasian man are 5'9 to 5'11 i go, but the in the North the "Native blood" is more strong, and yes. the average size of man are 5'6 to 5'9. and for womens 5'0 to 5'3 :o

he is only indicating what I had already said I am also from the south of Brazil, and it is normal to have people 5'10-5'11
the general average is only at 5'8-5'9 because there are regions in the north of the country where the height is very low between 5'7.
but the last generations are very large, we have compulsory military enlistment annually in Brazil, and we have the actual registration of all 18 year olds, and each year the height of the 18 year olds exceeds the general average of the Country which indicates that people are growing a lot around here, in average, you are always a little taller than your parents parents 5'8 have children 5'10
but understand the general average of the country is calculated with actual measures and updated annually
interviews are not used where they ask about their height

I can tell at 2000 % that there is NO WAY 10 cm of difference between Dutch and French. I know that Dutch are taller than French, but it is no that much. It is pretty funny that all this studies are taking the shortest results when it is french people (I start to think that it is french bashing) and the tallest results for other countries (especially Spain). French people aren't the tallest in Europe, I agree, but we are not shorter than Flemish Belgian (181 of average in Belgium is more than a joke), Luxemburgish (about 20 % of luxemburgish are portuguese so the 179 cm as average is a joke), Italian (even in north of Italy), American, English, Russian, Brazilian, Ukrainian, etc. The shortest people I have met were people from Hong Kong (while the average there is theorically 173). And I don't say this by national pride.
Recent studies (2001) shows an average between 175 and 177 for young french people depending on their region
http://www.noelshack.com/2018-41-5-1539347836-image.png
People in Paris are theorically the tallest with an average of 177,5cm (almost 5'10) but I don't believe it.
here is a map about height in Italy
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Statura_Italia.png
in the red areas the male average height it's around 177cm
in the yellow area the average height it's between 175cm and 177cm
in the blue part it's between 173cm and 175cm
in the green part it's lower than 173cm
I can't wait the dutch average to be debunked. There is so many strangers in Netherlands (especially in Amsterdam) from Africa or other parts of the world, so the average can't be 184.
180,000 arabs
367,455 berbers
more than 9000 armenian and more than 9000 angolans and nigerian
more than 32 000 indians
more than 9500 people from Hong Kong
more than 400 000 Turkish people
more than 15 000 kurds
more than 35 000 iranians
more than 16 000 filipinos
141 000 CuraƧaoans
more than 21 000 Cape Verdeans
more than 21 000 chinese people
60 000 afghans
more than 21 000 vietnamese
350 000 Surinamese
34,631 somali people
etc (at least half of them if not more have the dutch nationality)
and this in a country of 17 millions of people. It's the same in France, UK, Germany, Belgium or UK but it is more populated countries (except Belgium) so finally it's less important
I don't know how the found this average, maybe they don't take strangers in consideration but except on internet I didn't heard anybody who went there telling me Dutch are all giants and looking at tourist they don't look taller than czech or german people. They are about the same
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Ethnic_groups_in_the_Netherlands
My conclusion is that all these numbers are bull. The proof ? Some studies show an average of 176 in Lithuania or Belgium and others shows an average of 182 in this same countries. However some numbers looks honest.
I have found some studies about african tallest ethnicities
according to Jean Hiernaux Tutsis are 176 cm in average, Masai are 173 cm, Somali and Agews (kushi.tic ethnicities) are about 172-173 cm and it is about 172 for Oromos. The study is pretty old but it's still look legit.

I can tell at 2000 % that there is NO WAY 10 cm of difference between Dutch and French. I know that Dutch are taller than French, but
I put French between 1.74 and 1.77 in some regions, it is not a low average,
we know that French people have high average height, they are facts.
there is nothing to discuss further knowing that Normandy is a region formed by mostly vickings which in its time already was 1.75-1.77 average which was already a high average.
-
2-3cm more than 1.69 which says the survey.
I don't think that the average Brazilian is not even 1.71.
in fact the average of Brazilian men is 5.9 in the cities and 5.7 in the rural area
-
Really, Brazilians dont are short...
