Hey guys.
I am gonna get limb lengthening first on tibia (5cm) and then on femur (10cm).
My question is: Can I get them done one after another?
I mean just after stretching tibia bone to desired height (in my case 5 cm) can I get surgery on femur?
That ways both tibia and femur muscles can heal together.
Is it possible? and if it is, what will be the recovery time?
All comments/ opinions are welcome :)
Thank you.
PS: I am 26 year old guy with healthy leg muscles.

hello
I think u can do cross lateral lengthening both femur and tibia but 15cm is risky and it will take u more than 2 years
-
It's been done before by Jungle. Took him about a year for just the lengthening phase. I don't know about his recovery time.
-
Hi mimi.
What do you think is the safe limit?
-
I checked manny doctors they all don't recommand 15 cm in one time try first tibia and one year later femure
-
Jungle? Sorry I am new here.

The thing is Mimi, i got only 1 year free.
Which means, in that one year I got to get the surgery done and also recover (to the point where people cant tell I have gone through limb lengthening).
So what is the maximum cm/inches one can achieve within that time period?

1. 4 internal rods at the same time, 7 cm tibia, 8 femur. (3 months lengthening, another 3-4 months and you should be able to walk fine, remove internals if you will after an year or two)
2. Cross-lateral externals, 7 left tibia, 8 right femur - 7 right tibia, 8 left femur. (overall 6 months lengthening, 14 months of consolidation, so around 2 years to complete fully)
3. LON cross-lateral externals, 7 left tibia, 8 right femur - 7 right tibia, 8 left femur. (overall 6 months lengthening, but you can remove externals right after distaction phase and put on opposite side, and after lengthening everything you'll need another 3-4 months to walk normally again, remove internals if you will after an year or two)

I think that the maximum lengthenign is 20% of the original bone and not more 1mm per day that is the safest way

Hi Exclide,
As per your comment, point 1 and 3, one can get surgery and heal one's muscles within 6-7 months.
On 8th month will I walk normally , as I do before surgery, or will people notice?
And which one do you recommend?
-
everyone has a different recommendation lol
I recommend (6 cm tibia) (Full external Monorail), followed by (6cm femur) (external LON Monorail).
this can be done back to back.
-
Thank you.
Total of 12 cms is close to 5 inches. Good enough for me :)
What will be the recovery time for that?

I'd go with #1 with Dr. Paley if I had the money. Just note that not everyone can take such amounts of lengthening especially simultaneously, so you may bend really hard and you'll have to stop the distraction. But it's the fastest way you can lengthen so much. Your muscules should recover 3-4 months after completing distraction, but just to a point where you can walk close to normal, I can't say just how close, again, it depends just how your body takes the lengthening and how hard you work out.

Jungle? Sorry I am new here.
Jungle is a former old forum poster and one of the most hardcore LLers ever. He did external-only tibiae and then lengthened his femurs while his tibiae consolidated. Then he went back for a 3rd LL on his tibiae, cementing his legacy.

there are many factors that determine how long it takes from start to finish.
best person to ask is your doctor.
1 year is more than enough time. I suspect it will take around 7-8 months providing you don't need a quadriplasty (5% of people do).
how tall are you, how much do you weigh.

If you need to be walking completely normally within one year, you should only do one surgery. I think two surgeries and 12-15cm is just too much lengthening to recover from that fast.

I am 5 feet 6 inches (168 cms) weighing 63 kgs (139 lbs)

Jeses, how much is your budget?

Jeses, how much is your budget?
40,000 - 50,000 USD
-
40,000 - 50,000 USD
In total for both surgeries? That will limit the type of surgeries you can do. Internal surgery is close to 50k+ minimum.

Tibias shouldn't take too long. If you are using externals, which I would recommend for an amount like 5 cm unless you are crazy rich, it should take about 5 months--maybe less if you are extremely fit. I would not recommend externals for femurs, though. Recovery time for 10 cm on femurs would be, at best with someone like Dr. Guichet or Betz, would be between 7-8 months. If you absolutely must do externals with femurs, don't do them with anyone other than the Russian Ilizarov Centre, Dr. Paley, Dr. Xia & Dr. Li, and Dr. Barinov. There are probably a few other good doctors I left out, but I'd steer clear of India.
