All except one of my half siblings have a mom who is 5'11 like my dad, and another one has a mom who is 5'8. My mom is 5'0 and that's why I was so much smaller than the rest.

My Dad is around 190 and my mother is 175ish. Most of my uncles are 190+ and every female in my family is 175+. When we take family pictures, I´m always the one in the front row because no one would see me otherwise (that´s the running gag in my family). My two cousin are both around 193-195.
My little sister is the tallest in her class by quit a bit, according to the Dr. she will be between 179-184 when she´s fully grown.

May I ask why your mom's height decrease so much? Normally people lose their height by 2-3 cm when they get old, and 5-7cm when much older like 80+?

I've noticed most immigrant sons are much taller than their fathers. I dont realy understand why i wasnt an inch or two taller than him when he only ate meat three times a week and i ate meat three times a day :/ anyone have an idea?

Good question. I think it's probably imperfect health and a lack of activity. She has been having back problems for a while and doesn't really do anything about it. My advice if you don't want to lose height is to stay as active and healthy as you can, yoga, stretching, gymnastics, and so on.

Youth are taller... Still one of the shortest average height in Europe. When i see erasmus students at my college I am like: wow this dudes are tall as f***.
Always use timberland boots or 1cm insoles on trainers that already have 0.5cm advantage to shoes like vans. That so I normally have an advantafe of 1 or 2 cm to normal shoes. Planing on doing 5cm on femurs and forget about my height neurosis.

His other 2 sons are 5'9 and 5'10 or so.

You still have pretty good chance to grow more especially that your father is 6'1. To be honest most of my old classmates had growth spurts. Even a guy that was always was shorter than me now is like 5'8.

If I increase my height another inch I wont do LL. A doctor said that my growth plates were closed, however there is still hope in the spine.

Wrist growth plates are mostly first to fuse but yea you can still grow especially if you have now bigger wingspan than your height.
Remember hope dies last.

Well i don't know where are you living but i probably wouldn't support(at least financially) my son for this surgery if he was 5'9 lol. Remember it's a height that i will achieve after 10cm of LL and i'm living in one of the tallest countries. It's not that bad.
I mean parents support is important but you need to get a bit real with the facts, at pretty average height is getting LL really worth over 20k USD?

The worst thing, is that actually when i was a kid i know something was wrong, and my pediatrician only ask me, Why you want to be tall anyway? So when i pushed to go with a endocrinologist, he said is was already too late, cause by growth cartilage was already closed.

I stopped growing when i was 12yo, constantly pushing my parents that something is wrong and i need to see a doctor but they always told me they don't have time for that, im panicking etc(i was like 14-15yo back then) and here where i'm living you can't go to doctor alone without parents until you are full adult.
Then i finally hit 18 and went on my own. After 1 year i finally got diagnosis that i have hypothyroidism and i'm still waiting for more hormonal tests at the end of this year.
My pediatrician told me that everything is okay and i will grow and she was very supportive since she knew me since i was a little kid. I still remember her "essay" when i went to her for a papers so i can go to psychologist after little incident, damn...

Being 2m tall is not that unusual. If not that bunch of weirdos lurking the forum i could post picture of my uncle totaly towering over me.
They always need to duck a bit in our house since the door frame is like 2m.

Yeah it sucks, but I don't think you had any real problems. Yes you got screwed over by your mom's genes: That's not her fault or yours. It sucks, but it can be a great feeling of relief knowing that (at least from what I've gathered thus far) that it was just the way things were supposed to turn out. Hang in there man, it's not all that bad trust me.

Thanks but i described pediatrician situation a bit wrong.
She was telling me all of this back when i was 15yo, my growth plates are fused now(i'm 20 in a few months). She was just basically telling me to not worry about it(since i was feeling pretty down by it) but now i go to her mostly for papers to go to shrink.
I'm potential HGH candidate but they got my thyroid issues too late.

When I stand near to my brother, I feel a little bit shorter. But when it comes to stand near to my father or someone above 175, it really realy sucks too much. Overall, both of the situations suck)

I think that, for 4cm, it depends more on their previous height and the average height of men & women where they live.
A 4cm increase would be a huge difference for me where I live, while if I was 4cms shorter and got to my height, it'd only be an okay difference/increase.

Oddly enough I have "tallish" grandmothers, both of which are taller than my grandfathers. I'm surprised my parents ended up so short, especially my dad. With the heights of my grandmothers, it's pretty obvious that I have tall uncles and cousins. Most hover around 6ft, not a single one under 5'9.

Oddly enough I have "tallish" grandmothers, both of which are taller than my grandfathers. I'm surprised my parents ended up so short, especially my dad. With the heights of my grandmothers, it's pretty obvious that I have tall uncles and cousins. Most hover around 6ft, not a single one under 5'9.
Your dad's case is the weirdest I've ever seen.
I've literally never seen someone with a 5'7 dad and a mother who's at least 5'7 end up shorter than 5'9.

I hate to present an anecdotal story like this, but:
My dad's parent's got divorced when he was 12 and he ran away at 14. He was on his own for months at a time just staying with friends and sketchy people throughout the country for a few years until he came back home to serve in the military. When he was living in NY he told me he would sometimes go all day just eating a chocolate bar and then sleeping for 3-4 hours on his friend's mom's couch.
All his siblings are taller than him, uncle is 6'1, I have another aunt who is 5'8, another who is 5'7, etc...
I doubt that lifestyle could stunt his height THAT much though.

Too bad our science on stunted height in developed countries is so shxt.
I find 6' totally believable for someone who had a 5'9 mother and a 5'7 father. Like we mentioned before, people seem to get more height from their mother. So above-average mother + short-average father = tall children easily a possibility. To get someone shorter than both parents, though, it feels like there was something else involved there. Maybe you have some really short Tongan ancestors you never have heard of, and their recessive genes took effect in your father. Or some genetic disease he couldn't get tested in his times. I really have no idea.

Nutrition can probably severely stunt growth, tbh. It'd nice if we could get some nutritionists and endocrinologists to post here.
I've been to developing countries in South America with large populations whose ancestors were African slaves, a lot of the black men there were really short. However, in the US, blacks are the same size as white males. So what gives? The Atlantic slave trade mostly all got their slaves from the same sources in West Africa.

Wasn't trying to hate on you or anything. Sorry if it came across as rude. But look at this thread: mostly white people with taller parents who ended shorter. Definitely lucky, imo.

I don't understand how are people's parents losing so many centimeters over their lifetimes in this thread. My father lost 1.5cm at most, if that.

I think its about mentality even known from my taller friends some of them got 185 some 180 and they are equal. After if it will be visible for someone you can blame that on posture :D

My father had a sedentary lifestyle, is an alcoholic, chain smoker, drug user, and obese. It's natural for someone to shrink a few centimeters over several decades, but I think these are also factors.

It's also fully possible that he was only like 1,68 m in his younger days and they just put 1,70 on his driver's license for whatever reason.

From Margo Dydek's (born in the 70s, in Poland) family:
Father: 201cm, 6'7 - Former Basketball player.
Mother: 191cm, 6'3 - Former Volleyball player.
Margo: 218cm, 7'2
Older sister: 201cm, 6'7
Youngest sister: 198cm, 6'6
This is a family of obviously exceptional genetics for height, but the two other sisters were no taller than their father, even despite the mother's height being more standard deviations above the norm than her father's.

Personally i think that with the height of my mother i should be taller. I am 21 years old now, but at the 12 years i used to take drugs. Then that could affect my growth, but i always was little in my classroom

I had a bone age when I was 10 years old by one of the best growth doctor's offices around. Based on best practice estimates, my height was going to be 5'7 - 5'10" range.
At age 11, I had a surge of puberty that was much too fast and strong and it hit me with a force. It was precocious and as a result, my bones aged too quickly (fused) and my height growth stopped at 5'1" (Precocious Puberty). I was done growing by age 12. I was actually 4'6 at age 11 and that summer I grew 6.5 inches. It was insane. Everyone thought the height issue was over. Little did they know that the onset of extreme puberty was why I grew so rapidly. I actually was forfeiting my growth. It was funny because I was so well developed (early developed) that I was throwing my peer group and older kids all over the place in wrestling and on the football field (Pop Warner, etc). I was so much stronger and muscular (Natural muscles, not weight lifting) than my peers that I actually had scouts coming out to vet me. Well, the rest is history as I mentioned. Such is life, guys. We go forward and we have to own whatever we got and do something with it.
I implore the parents on this community to monitor their children's height closely and their puberty onset. If it's still early enough; hormonal imbalances and early onsets of puberty can be safely controlled with modern medical technology and your child can salvage a great height... at least closer to their true height.

I just found out, that at the age of 15 i was 171 cm, between 15 and 16 had grown 4 cm and between 16 and 17 just 2cm(because at 16 and 9 month y.o. I was 176)
