Title: At what age do men start growing shorter?
Post by: jenjen on December 31, 2016, 02:57:29 AM
They say it starts around 30, but I find it hard to believe  that we stop growing around 21 and then have a 9 year peak. Besides, I  see alot of people in their mid 30's looking the same. I'm gonna assume if a healthy male loses some cm around 38-40 Can someone confirm this for me?

late 60s and onward... you know at the time when you're an established man (hopefully) and probably won't care at all about height..

everyone should lose some of his height due to a bad posture. Arnold lost nearly a full inch, and others loss few mm, you cant tell

It depends on your lifestyle and other factors

Guys who play sports like rugby, gridiron, people who lift things daily with poor posture are likely to lose more than folk who have less stress on their overall body.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was 6-1.5" he's now around 5-11 so it is possible to lose a fair whack depending on the stress your body is under in life. Sadly some people have a lot more physically demanding life than others and as a result usually lose more. David Prowse is another good example he weightlifted when young pretty heavily and he had arthritis and has lost a good 3-4"

Men lose less than women, though. They usually gradually lose an inch from 30-60 apparently and another inch around the age of 80, because of cartilege wearing down, worse posture, and your spine's gel plates (or whatever they're called) slowly getting worn down by gravity.

Women lose like 2-4 inches as opposed to 1-2.

I guess it all depends on the individual, though. Probably yoga or other stretches of some sort help, as well as maintaining good posture. And a lot of sleep, and a healthy diet, and enough exercise.... but not wearing your body out either.
