Hi Short56
Dr. Paley said that it is possible to remove the rods after 1 year postop. However, some doctors request 2 years to be safe. So 2 yrs should be fine.  I saw some patients after removal.  The pain is much more manageable and so they walked next day.  Normally, about a week or so, you can go back to normal. But don't do any kind of serious stuffs since your bones still have holes inside, which may take at least 2-3 months to be sealed.
