i was wondering how many years you need those rods in your legs to let bone heal fully. and after removing rods is it very painful to walk???

Hi Short56
Dr. Paley said that it is possible to remove the rods after 1 year postop. However, some doctors request 2 years to be safe. So 2 yrs should be fine. I saw some patients after removal. The pain is much more manageable and so they walked next day. Normally, about a week or so, you can go back to normal. But don't do any kind of serious stuffs since your bones still have holes inside, which may take at least 2-3 months to be sealed.
