Title: Tibia or femur lengthening for a wrestler?
Post by: . on November 10, 2020, 02:43:32 PM
Which one would be less devastating for a wrestler? Assuming we always lengthen a reasonable amount with either segment.

The goal would be getting LL and still be a good competitive wrestler.

Very ambitious endeavour but naturally it should be femurs.

Less devastating than lengthening on an athlete who is involved in kickboxing. Might make the lengthening more painful if you have thick muscles to start with though.

Even if everything goes smoothly without any complications, it is unlikely you will regain your pre-lengthening level of strength and fitness for a a long time and perhaps never.

In reality there is bound to be some sort of complications (small or big) and it takes several years to FULLY recover. If you want to participate in professional wrestling than focus on your career first and do the lengthening once it is over. However if you still choose to go ahead than femur is always a better and safer option, it does also has relatively faster recovery time.

Generally femurs are better for LL to retain more athletic abilities. Also, the less you lengthen (5.0 to 5.5 cm for femurs), the more athletic ability you will retain. But I’m not sure if longer legs will benefit you for wrestling, because it raises your center of gravity.

Femurs.  It will be so easy to get you into a leg lock if you do tibias.  Also, femur length doesn't affect your squatting height nearly as much as tibias.
