Do YOU have long/average/short legs?
Ok, so statistically:
An average leg has an inseam that represents 45% of the height.
You measure inseam, bit stading, with no socks, or shoes, and measure from your crotch to the floor. (nr 5 in the pic)
I'm 177.5cm in height.
my inseam is 81 cm.
You calculate it by going:
inseam (cm)
___________ x 100
height (cm)
mine works out to 45%
Which sounds about right, as my legs appear average.
What's yours?
P.S. This post is borrowed from an asian female fashion forum ;D . Keep in mind that females have longer legs compared to their torso's!
-
45-48% is in the norm, everything under or over is short/long
So if i went ahead and lengthened my legs by 2x 3.25cm, my inseam would be 87.5cm divided by 184cm = 47%
-
Mine is 44% (31"/79cm) so plenty of place for LL ;D
Will be 47% after lengthening 5 on femurs + 4cm on tibs.
-
In those pics it doesn't look like the line goes all the way up to the crotch, or "taint" (the skin between the penis and the butt).
I can't reconcile that my inseam is 31.25" at 5'8, when my x-ray measurements show my legs were shorter than Apotheosis, who was 5'7 and had a decent sitting height. I also am pretty skinny, and have a 94 cm sitting height.
I mean I have pure scientific evidence that my legs are on the below average side, they are equal to a guy who was 5'6 on old forum . Meaning I would have to be 6' to have his pre-LL ratios (assuming 4 inches of leg growth for every 2 inches of torso growth).
I don't know where these people are measuring to, there is no standard "crotch" location it seems. It's too variable.

Well, It seemed fitting for them.

No, no, no! Start measuring from the floor! Pfff, chix and tools! ;)
But she can measure my inseam anytime! :P
-
680, what do you get measuring up to your hip bone/iliac crest?
-
680, what do you get measuring up to your hip bone/iliac crest?
Well, basically from the top of my pants to the floor 101cm. Not sure i can locate precisely
-
Hmm, well from the top of my pants (hip bone) to the floor is 37 inches, or 94 cm. And it's not like I have long tibias or something, my tibia/femur ratio was right about average according to x-rays. I doubt my heels are long either. I'm really not getting this floor to crotch business. Whatever.
-
Btw, How much do you plan on lengthening ?
Here is how i see it, You can have length or good proportions but not both. Even if you have shorter legs and great sitting height, there will always be something to ruin our proportions. There is more to proportions than legs/torso (arm span, shoulder width, hand size, feet size, head size... and more)
You could probably go up to 6'0" but you need to sacrifice some proportions to do it, IMO there is a threshold but then again i am not a doctor.
Whats you'r arm span btw ?

I plan to do 4 inches to get to 6 foot, quad lengthening with Paley. My armspan is pretty crappy: 173-174 cm. Which is why I was annoyed of the thought I don't have short legs. Short limbs are usually a package deal. I know a 10 cm difference seems bad, but I saw Mysteryman at old forum who had a 10 cm difference (165 wingspan, 175 cm post LL height), and no one would be able to tell unless they were looking for it.
-
Without measuring I know I'm on the shorter side for my legs, It's just easy to tell when I look in the mirror or when I'm next to others. And it's probably overemphasized because my wingspan is nearly 4inches higher than my height.
Height:170cm (end of day)
Wingspan: ~180cm

u need 4 inch to be 6'0, so u're 5'8 but u say u'll be 175 post LL .. i'm getting confused

Please read my post more carefully. I was referring to Mysteryman from old forum who was 175 cm post LL.
I think my post was pretty clear, your English must be pretty weak.

48.2353 %
170 cm tall and 82 inseam. A little long.
-
41% before LL
45% after LL
-
41% before LL
45% after LL
Are you sure... It seems like you had really short legs.
-
I did. I suppose that's how I could get away with lengthening 3 inches without looking weird.
-
My height is:165cm
And my legs from are 84 (or 104 from the hip)
So I am around 51%, is that normal? :-\
-
174 height vs 79 inseam means 45,4 %.
So on the edge of short legs.
I always noticed that just by sitting height I am not doing bad against most men who are much taller than me.
LL would look good on me, I think, and I would have around 47% with 181 height and 85 inseam (I think 7cm is a bit on the extreme already, I am aiming for 6 cm).
So, slightly more leggy but still on the good side.
-
Before my Lengthening i had very short legs. Now they look much more proportionate to the torso than before. But i really think that they are still in the short range and that 4/5cm more could be ideal.
-
Height: 166cm
Sitting Height: Around 90-91cm
Inseam:70-71cm
Wingspan: Around 175cm
70/166 x 100= 42% so ye i always was all torso/short legs type of a guy.
-
I'm 64 inches in height, or around 163cm's, and my leg length from floor to crotch is 34 inches, or 86.4cm's. meaning I have a 53% leg to torso ratio. Long stride much?
-
Mine is 48.4% apparently. Does this mean I have a really short torso for a 5'2 person?
-
Yes you do, but you are a woman.
-
Damn... I just measured my inseam and my sitting height. Turns out I am on average side, always thought I had a long torso/short legs combo. My inseam is ~76cm and my sitting height is 87cm on the evening. I'm 167.2cm tall. So my leg to torso ratio is 0.4545. I'm now interested if my arms are long or short, can I use the same formula but with arm lenght/wingspan?
so for me it is 73cm/168.5cm x 100 = 43.32%
-
The bigger wingspan the better(obviously).
Just measured for you and my arms are around 74cm.
If you want some kind of image how you could look like after some amount of lengthening make mockups.
-
41.5%
No wonder there aren't any trousers that fit :-\
-
I know how you feel man, i need to shorten my pants every damn time.
Good thing is that my mom is a tailor.

Height:174 cm
Inseam: 81.5 cm
Am I

A little bit long. But nothing out of the ordinary
-
Wow. I got 43.5%. I always thought my legs were short for my height but I had no idea they were actually below average. No wonder I'm always dressed to make my torso look shorter and legs look longer.
-
Height= 153.9 cm
Inseam= 72cm
46.78% so I am average
-
169cm height, 73cm inseam. 43%, with 5cm i would get to 46%, so much better/normal proportions. it sucks not having the money for the precise :(
-
measuring sitting height is much more accurate...

With 5CM you would be just under 45%. Did you remember to add the 5CM to your initial height alongside inseam? 78/174x100=44.82%. If you don't change your initial height, the sum comes 46% - 78/169x100=46.15%
measuring sitting height is much more accurate...
Not particularly, a fat/muscular person could have a sitting height of several CM more than someone at a very low body weight due to the size of the buttocks and thighs.

I just found this and did mine. I'm a white guy.
Height: 171cm
Inseam: 80cm
Floor to hip: 101cm
My back is straight, so I have a very short upper body. How do I gain height in my torso?
Edit: my sitting height is 93cm, so I disagree that sitting height is more accurate. My hips throw off my sitting height despite being part of my legs.

I'm thin, my torso looks short.

My height is 170 cm (5'7")
My inseam is 79 cm (31 in)
I got 46% leg to torso ratio
IMO, I have average leg to torso ratio, but I want to see what you guys think. Here are a couple of photos of mine:

There's an option you have to set for the link, look where you get the link and ensure that it's public or whatever. Whenever I try to click on that link it says I have to ask for permission, which means everyone else who wants to see has to ask for permission; ergo, it's not public

I think you have good proportions for LL.
Go for 6-6.5 cm in tibias and you'll look veey good. At your height 1 LL is enough imo.

Yes and maybe your feet are a little on the short side compared to your torso so your proportions won't be ruined with LL. On the contrary, I think you'll look better.

Thanks, mate. Well, my shoe size is actually 27.5, so I do not have small feet.

Shoe size is different from leg's length. With small feet I refer to the latter.

Here I my stats:
Relative lenghts, starting from the floor:
floor: 0 cm
ankle: 7 cm
knee: 42 cm
hip bone: 87 cm
shoulders: 130 cm
below the chin: 135 cm
top head / total height: 156 cm
Absolute lenghts:
head length: 156 cm
neck length: 5 cm
torso (hip bone to shoulder): 48 cm
femur (knee to hip bone): 40 cm
tibias (ankle to knee): 35 cm
foot (floor to ankle): 7 cm
inseam point to hip bone difference: 15 cm [(floor to femur) minus (inseam)]
inseam - 67 cm
wing span - 164 cm
sitting height - 84 cm
weight - 63 kg
strong/athletic physique, almost overweight for BMI, cuz of muscles, not skinny, can stretch very well
Notes on ratios and proportions:
max height, before looking weird (rule of thumb) = wing span + 10 cm = ape index of plus 10
average Sitting Height Ratio (SHR) = sitting height/height: 48-52%
average (inseam/height) = 45%
average tibia/femur = 80%
Current ratios before LL:
ape index = minus 8 cm
SHR = 53.85%
inseam/height = 42.95%
tibia/femur = 87.5%
When my arms hang, my inseam point is at half of my palm length
The plan is to go from 156 cm to 172 cm, starting after 3.5 years from now with 10 cm on femur,
and 3 years later with 6 cm on tibias. Since my femurs got loads of muscle mass, and they are shorter than they should in terms of proportions to tibias.
(This would also fix my bow legs simultanously. In my initial mail I got the reply that is no problem to achieve.)
I will go with Dr. Betz, cuz I live in germany, and he gives the patient what he wants, and I trust my body to withstand it without problems.
Ratios and proportions after two LL procedures:
height 156 cm > 172 cm (+16)
femur 40 cm -> 50 cm (+10)
tibias 35 cm -> 41 cm (+6)
wing span 164 cm
inseam 67 cm -> 83 cm
ape index from minus 8 cm -> plus 8 cm, good thing my arms hang low enough to look good anyway
SHR = 53.85% -> 48.8%
inseam/height = 42.95% -> 48.26%
tibia/femur = 87.5% -> 82.0%
Haven't had the appointment with Betz yet. It's planned for autumn.

My height is 176.0cm :(
Torso is 92.71cm. :)
My length of my feet are 11.0 inches.
My hands are around 8 inches across and 7.5" from wrist to the top of my middle finger.
I have a 52.67% torso to leg ratio. :o
My ratio would be considered slightly above average, right?
-
The height from the floor to the bottom of my balls is about 46,5 % of my height. I think I have quite long legs. Is 48 % the ratio where the legs look too long? With 2 cm to 5 cm height loss and shoes that give 2 cm or 3 cm in height, would a ratio over 48 % look weird?
-
You guys are obsessed with height down to the decimal. Please spare yourselves.
