Don't forget your blood!
« on: February 07, 2022, 08:44:55 PM »

I am opening this topic to remind everybody that it may be useful, as advised by some doctors, to constitute a reserve of a certain amount of our own blood before LL surgery in case we need an autologous "donation".
Compatible previous donation to constitute a reserve by a family member may also be useful. It will be allocated to the patient only and avoid any shortage of blood if needed (altough unusual in a good hospital).
Autologous donation has perfect compatibility and is more "efficient". But of course the person shouldn't be neither too thin nor fat (which is anyway not compatible with the surgery) when donating blood and ideally not a few days only before surgery. Otherwise each healthy average size male can donate allmost 1000 cm3 of blood without any problems and will start to reconstitute usual physiological quantity shortly thereafter. It's either not a bad idea maybe to be well fed and take iron supplements...
