reasons to wear the exfix

What would you tell your friends to explain the frames on your tibias. Unfortunately I don't have enough time to stay abroad for the whole duration so I am sure people back home will ask me why I have these things on.
Are there any reasons why they are used, besides a bow leg corrections?

They are used for bowed leg corrections, also to adjust broken limbs if the fracture is too complicated for a cast.
