3 during the day and 4 at night but Im feeling a burning sensation in the tibia since i hit 1.9/2cm that causes a lot of discomfort. It is position dependant . In some possitions i dont feel it .and i think that is caused by  nerve stretching . But yesterday and today  this has been getting better and i havent felt it too much

Great progress so far KrP1.

I was wondering what the recovery path is like for the Fitbone--am deciding between Birkholtz or Monegal. I read in another diary that you can have a titanium sheet inserted into the Fitbone for greater weightbearing during the consolidation phase. Is that an option with Monegal?

That would be amazing if it were an option!

I dont know about that option. Doctor Monegal could tell you about that. But i have seen people doing full weightbearing  during consolidation with fitbone and without any problem.

Hi KrP1.

Did Dr. Monegal insert the fitbone retrograde (from the knee)? Rather than anterograde (from the hip)?

If so, what do you think about risks of knee pain and patellofemoral arthritis from the drilling of the femur around the kneecap?

Yes doctor Monegal insert the fitbone by retrograde.
I dont think that knee pain is going to be an issue because dr Monegal aboid to cause damage in the patellar tendon.
For what i have been talking with him there is no risk of patellofemoral arthritis.

Im at 4cm now so i only need 3cm more to get my goal.
When i look my self at the mirror i can see the difference with before but not a very big difference . I think that when i hit the 6cm mark this will be much more noticeable

cool.

we're both the same height with the same goal, I'm at 6cm now.

do you know what your final bone length will be in femur and tibia, it's just that most short men have really long femur to begin with, if i had long tibia i would do femurs, but it's the opposite way around for me.

Tibia 36.5cm. Femur... it depends from where you measure. If i measure from the top of the head of the femur 44.5

wow thats wierd so originally there was only 4cm between your tibia and femur before your operation?

good choice on doing femur then as otherwise you could only do 4cm on tibs.

i had 9cm so i am lucky to be able to do tibia.

So your femurs had a length of only 38.5cm's? That's really short. So your new ratio might be closer to the 0,8\1 than your old one.

Hahaha. No . This measurements are pre-op . So femur length will be 51.5cm.
My ratio was 0.82 before surgery if the femur is measured from the top of its head or 0.85 (43cm) if measured from the center of the  head.
So my tibia was longer in proportion before lengthening.

Yesterday i went with Dr Monegal to do new Xrays. Everything was ok and i could see good bone callus formation.
When i stood up near Dr Monegal i could clearly see that there was a diference in height with before. I told him that he has shrunk hahaha. Im at 4.5cm now.

1- pain is similar to what i have said in other posts.  Every week apears and dissapears new kinds of pain. You need to be prepared to have constant pain during all the lengthening.
2- im in wheelchair

Maybe pain is not the best word. But a constant discomfort.
Distracting is not painfull. I dont  feel any pain when i distract, only that some time later i feel more tension in my legs.

Im lengthening at 0.8 . My body doesnt tolerate more than that very well. Even at that rate i stopped the lengthening for three days beause the discomfort in my legs was getting very big. Now after that im lengthening again and doing better. 5cm right now.

I will return home after two months at MICs

Dont give up!!!

What are the worst moments in cm? all the people talk about 6 cm.

Others tell that in 2 cm there is a increase in the pain too.

I really think that people cares to much about pain during lengthening or inmediately post op. Its obious that you are going to feel some pain. You are going to have a major surgery but  This is not the important thing... for me the real important thing is to dont have any kind of pain or limitation after i finish my consolidation. Chronic pain is the worst thing a person could have in his life.
Its normal to feel pain after surgery but this will be treated with pain meds and is very bearable.
During lengthening from 1cm to 5cm for me has been about the same. With diferent kinds of pains that start and gone  And constant tension in my legs. The first month is obiously more painful because the surgery is more recent but you arent going to feel inmense pain at any stage.

yesterday i left the MiCs, after two months living there. I have had a great time with the other Dr.Monegal Patients and they have become my new friends. MiCs apartments are very well adapted for people in our situation. The gym and the swimming pool with hot water is essential for our recovery. The last weeks, i really enjoyed to go to the  swimmingpool almost every day , to walk and do stretches. I recomend to everyone to stay in MiCs  during all the lengthening or at least for two months like i did. Its important to be with persons that are doing the same as you and to be near Dr.Monegal during this stage. The saddest part was to left there my new friends.
Im at 5.6cm now so im in the final lap . Only 1.4cm more to finish my lengthening :)

I agree. Temporary pain isn't a big deal unless it's absolutely excruciating and drives you insane. Long term pain is a much bigger problem. And congratulations, KrP1. Good going.

Congratz om 5,6cm, that must be a good feeling being 5,6cm taller!
Good luck with your last 1,4cm.. Or maybe more, you never know 8)

Will you go home for the last 1,4cm lengthening or will you stay at another place close to the clinic?

keep on fighting!!!

You are lengthening on a ratio of 0,08 mm/day. In a few days you have reached the goal.

is it the pain worst in the final cm?

Good travel to your country. :)
