External and Internal Advantages and Disadvantages?
« on: October 18, 2017, 03:59:20 PM »

I've heard that Internal on Femurs, 5 cm's is the "safest" way to go...

is that true?
Many seem to claim it's more complicated than said.. and would prefer External Tibia's over internal femurs..
What do you think is best?

In general, yes, lengthening less is safer. Doctors recommend 10~20% increase in each segment, so it's a little different for everyone. We also have different legs, pain tolerances, nerves, flexibility, etc.

External tibia are preferred since it's more affordable and tend to look better than long femurs (note: depends on your starting measurements). Externals on femurs are comparatively uncomfortable, meaning that internals are recommended; that means it's the more expensive option.

Plus, with internal femurs you can do more lengthening easily than doing external tibia.
