What changed in your life?

What height did you start and end at?

Go through finished diaries.

Finishing school before doing surgery. Most likely to just do tibias to become at least 170cm.

What are some of the oldest and finished diaries?

I've seen some from LLSouthAmerica, Penguinn, but they still seem to be dealing with a lot of issues relating to their LL.

Mostly that it's been a long time and I've not seen anyone here state that they're back even to 80%. I've seen posts of people talking about 2min jogs at most (not more, because "they didn't want to risk it"). I'm yet to see a patient who said he was able to go back to running after a year or two of recovery. It seems people get crippled for life.

I don't consider myself crippled at all. I am completely normal as any person. I walk at the same speed as people on the street. I can run at max speed like before. However, what does seem to have changed is stamina. I've never trained but really og 5 minutes and my calves start bothering me (muscle fatigue). Maybe it is compartimental syndrome or maybe it is muscle atrophy and lack of training.

Either way, even if I could not run properly or fatigued easily, I would not consider myself crippled. I knew what I was getting into and the things I would sacrifice and would do it all over again.

Yes people don't want to risk it. I am 7 months post op and even with weight bearing nails 2 months in crutches really bothered me. I would not risk a fracture just to prove myself I can run as fast and as long as before. It just isn't worth it.

Do you think I'll be fine if I lengthen 5cm?

I agree with LLSouthAmerica, I don't feel crippled at all. I did have a slower recovery than most people so jogging/running properly will take me more time. I'll only consider it a problem if my improvement stops, which it hasn't. You could spend a day with me right now and never realize anything was wrong until you asked me to run. Callus takes a long time to become solid as the old bone. Also, LL patients know how it feels to not be able to walk and have legs that feel like they weigh a ton.. so we're not going to sprint until we're 200% sure just to prove something.

For running, we would need to ask the 2014 diary patients.

I'm glad to hear both of you are doing well. And I should have chosen better words to describe what I meant. It was really just that I hadn't seen anyone state they were able to run again, even after a lot of time seemed to have passed. LLSouthAmerica said he can, though, despite the stamina aspect, so that's great to hear.

My jogging is suppressed mostly by choice, although it definitely wouldn't be back to normal if I went full steam. Considering my gait became normal just recently (1 year post op), I think I should give it time before I jog like I used to. By the feeling in my legs and the improvement, I'm certain I'll run. The speed and stamina we'll have to see. I'm not going to sprint until I'm 200% sure nothing will go wrong, it's just not worth it.

I can run at max speed like before.
I find this very hard to believe, specially when you still have the rods inside. Unless you were a rather slowpoke who never put much effort into running, that is.

Well 5 cm is supposedly the safe amount on tibia and 6 is safest on femurs so yea I’m sure you’ll be sweet people say you won’t run again but most of these people have lengthened about 8 cm which is why they can’t get back to full physical activity. Also 5 cm really isn’t a lot so It wouldn’t damage your muscles or stretch them as much as someone lengthening around 8 cm

I wasn't aware we were in the presence of a LL specialist who has overseen a lot of patients doing 5 cm and going back to full physical activity. It is stupid of Mr.Handsome to ask in a forum such a complex question to some random people who know nothing.

Yes, I'm sure you know more than the guy who went through limb lengthening surgery, is giving his testimony and have no motive to lie.

Auron has completed LL too my newfriend.

However, I dont think southamerica was saying he could run as fast and as long as before. I think his point was he didnt want to risk injury trying to run.

I didn't accuse Auron of never going through ll, all I said is that he dismissed someone else's account due to his outcome being different.

Life has become better for sure. I get treated better and more accepted than before.

I can run and I walk fine. Still have some issues and they will be there until the end.

It was so worth it.

That's right, if there is someone who can question someone else's testimony it's people like me, Sherlock. You, on the other hand, no nothing about LL, otherwise, you'd at least know that not a single person has reported to be able to run at previous max speed after LL, let alone with the rods still inside.

The moment that LLer's can run at their previous max speed 6 months after surgery there will be people doing LL left and right.

I didn't accuse Auron of never going through ll, all I said is that he dismissed someone else's account due to his outcome being different.
Wrong. Actually, I can run rather fast.

What about martial arts? Can you still compete at a decent level?

No. But I’m also older now so it’s more difficult anyway.

I’m doing kickboxing now. It’s more stable kind of art. No need to be jumping around.
