Congenital Short Femur and Tibia
« on: March 04, 2018, 11:54:05 AM »

Dear forum members,

I hope you are all well. I am writing to seek your advice regarding the treatment of congenital limb issues in India.

Three weeks ago, my wife delivered twin babies - a boy and a girl. The girl is perfectly healthy and fine; however, the boy has a tibia and femur issue.

He has been diagnosed with a kinked and short femur and tibia bones in the left leg. We have consulted 3 doctors so far and all of them have confirmed the issue.

1. In your experience and research, who is the best doctor in India for treatment? I am considering Dr Parihar for the same so far.

2. Are the surgeons for congenital deformities different than those for LL?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Regards,

All I know is that the best CLL (cosmetic limb lengthening) doctors work mainly with limb deformity and limb discrepancy correction. CLL is not their main activity.

Parihar is the best CLL doctor in India (in the opinion of these forums), but CLL (i.e. performing LL in adults) isn't a non-controversial practice. There may be better doctors who work with correction and discrepancies, but don't perform CLL, like Parihar does.

Everything else I feel too apprehensive to try and reply. I really hope everything goes well for your boy and you.

As already said by myloginacct, this forum is mostly dedicated to cosmetic treatment for adults, so we don't have listings of doctors that do that perform cosmetic limb lengthening.

That being said, Dr. Parihar is first and foremost a limb reconstruction specialist, so he should be a good source for you and your family to at least consult with.

Thank you for the responses. I think I will consult with Dr Parihar and also ask him for recommendations for other doctors for obtaining a second opinion.

The best doctors generally don't perform CLL surgery because there are some ethical issues with the operation, at least in China. It is recommended to go to the best hospital in India.

paley is world known in this field and it is his main activity (people here know him because he occasionnally do CLL) and he wrote books about it
but many "CLL" doctor actually work mainly in deformity corrections, CLL is a way to finance it

I have contacted Dr Paley already but I am afraid it might cost me an arm and a leg to get my son treated (though he has not given a cost estimate, yet).

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
