Walking unassisted timeframe with Stryde
« on: November 28, 2019, 03:07:18 PM »

Hey guys, from your experience how long roughly after you complete lengthening are you walking totally unassisted i.e. not even needing a cane for support?

At least 2 months post-op to be unassisted... but it wasn’t a normal walk by any means.

Month 5-6 is about 80-90% comfortability.

In my experience, I started walking unassisted a lot around my house at 3 weeks post op, but to go out or go up stairs I'd use crutches to help me up, I'd say right around 1 month and 3 weeks I dropped the crutches to go out as well and was just walking unassisted a bit limpy but I didn't really care for how I looked, I just wanted to push myself and make my body recover. now at almost 4 months post op I feel like my gait can look 100% normal at times but I hover around 90% on average because sometimes I get stiff and drop to 70-80% until I warm up and loosen up again.

This should change depending on your weight and the nail diameter
Some people are quite heavy and don’t have much margins
10mm nail has only 75 kilograms  fatigue load
Also femurs or tibias, make a lot difference

unassisted (without cane) I will say at least 3 months after surgery, does that mean you cannot walk unassisted before that? maybe you can bu that would be weird and ....ed up kind of walk.

Thanks guys. Yeah I'm trying to get a rough idea of when I'll be able to go back to work without people asking what happened to me  ;D I'm only going to do 5-6 cm femur not sure if that will make things a little less difficult or not
