I always wonder about x rays..

I see the bone growth, I see the callus, but is it hard callus? soft callus? Obviously the doc looked at these and said i am ready  to start slowly with jogging and light sports.

do you guys know how to read these on a basic level?

The density of the white line shipping the callus is what matters, the inside will be hollow and fill over time but most important part is that outer that get thicker.

Hello All:

Just an update, as I approach the 6 month mark.

No pain, walking around, gait is just slightly off, as i push through some subtle tightness in the legs, but I can walk fine.

Here is what I notice, and a tip for post LLers... Keep pushing on the PT after you "see the light", meaning once you are walking, and pain is gone. Easy to begin to slack in this area. When you are done, the 2 areas you will need to push your self on is flexibility, AND most noticeably, STRENGTH, STRENGTH, STRENGTH. You should basically, be walking all the time, and doing resistance training atleast 2 to 3 times per week. You will find the only thing holding you back at this phase is lack of power in the legs.

With that,I am ready to re enter the world.

God bless

agreed 1 part of stretching and 3 parts strengthening in the mix is what I've been doing to get myself back to normal as fast as possible, keep it up bro!

Killin it Bonestretching! Great to see your progress at close to 6 months. Totally agree, the dedication around strength is key, with a bit of stretching, all the way through. Keep crushing it homie.

Bonestretching you are 100% correct. The Post Op and Post distraction PT is one of the most important parts of the whole procedure. It really will determine the longterm outcome of how your achilles, and other muscles work in unison. I had it done on my left tibia for a height imbalance but I'll tell you, that as a natural bodybuilder, stretching is KEY! I took notes of my whole rehab so I could use it once I got the nail out too.

Wishing you the best!

Hey guys, just wanted to update you all.

I just turned the corner on 7 month, and heading towards 8 (time flies).

First of all, for those of you in the 1 to 4 months window of this process, I want to let you know, that "I KNOW", you feel like this is a never ending situation. I am here to tell you once you hit month 6 and 7, you will start feeling normal again. Specifically, you will be walking at 98& to 100% normal (if you continue to stretch), and your flexibility will be coming back fast. So just hang in there guys. I was you a few months ago trust me.

One thing I do want to ask:

What do you guys recommend for "back to sports training". I can jog very light, but it is still rough, and after about 30 seconds I just want to stop. Do you guys have any recommendation for training to get your jog back? Is it just the squats, lunges, etc, that will bring that "Spring" back?

Thanks guys,

Bionic Bones (no longer stretchin yall! - all done with the stretchin)

Awesome update Bones! Totally agree, around the 6 to 7 month post op time frame we magically start to feel normal again. Fellow LLers deep into distraction, it gets better, much faster, soon!

You are ahead of me in recovery, I'm about 6.5 months post op, but squats (unweighted) have been the most effective training for me as my glutes are by far still the weakest muscle impacted by LL, followed by side hip raises to strengthen my hip abductor.

I agree with Alchemist, squats is the main exercise to get us back to normal as it works the most important muscles for Femur CLLers. I recommend doing 2 leg day work outs a week after about 6 months to speed up recovery, I can jog for a bit, I can sprint as fast as my 5'10 250Lbs friend who's strong on the legs and likes to play basketball lol, he's not the fastest, but definitely not the slowest person I've met.

That’s great brother, so you went from 5ft1 and a half to 5ft4 and a half? Can you walk again? Are you happy with the height achieved, just like you I am 5ft1 and a half right and thinking of going for 3 inches but I am thinking of doing another surgery to gain another 2 inches or so. But not sure to be honest. Hope your well brother.

Hey bro,

It is a huge game changer. I thought about the extra 2, but you know, I am so OK with what I have now, i dont even know if I really need it. So I got the full 3 (its kinda of tough in the end, but just keep pushing, you will heal). I might wear a nice sneaker, with a little boost, and it gets me up to 5 6, 5 7, without any weird look from the shoes. Go for the 3, you will be so happy, and by that time, you will ask yourself if going 2 more is worth it. Its a life changer man.

Hello all, just a few weeks away from 1 year. I cant believe how fast time flies!

Question for all you you LL Bots, i notice I just started (about a week ago) to get this soreness in my left leg, it feels almost like growing pains , remember when you were young, and your knees got all cold, and achie, and it would keep you up all night?

Just starts mostly in the evening for me, and subsides over night.

I’ve been getting the same exact thing you’ve described in my left leg. It sucks cuz it feels like a toothache in your knee and there’s nothing you can do about it until it just goes away.

Wow I thought it was me only! that's so weird because I had my surgery 2 weeks before you Bone and I also started having pains out of nowhere in my right leg by the femur, knee and a bit of my upper shin early July! now my right leg feels much better and back to feeling strong how it was up until late June and the pain shifted to my left leg now, similar pain but it feels like the IT band more and also the knee but the outer side of the knee also where the IT band connects. it's weird but maybe something your body adjusts 1 year post op? lol

Funny guys, you all just described in more detail what I am feeling. It is so random, but off and on last week and this week.

EZ put it right, "Nothing you can do about it, until it goes away" lol - It was so bothersome last night my mind started thinking about the Ol' tramadol lol, but no way, I grabbed an extra strength Tylenol and the pain "eased" in about an hour or so.

I will keep you guys updated, i picked back up on boxing this week, and it seemed to have help the issue, almost as if activity directed my brain away from the pain.

One of the mental challenges is staying up with your personal PT.

Once you can walk, you feel well enough to just return to normal, but fact is you are not even close to normal, you realize this when you are in activities that required flextion , bending, explosiveness, etc.

ESPECIALLY, with these COVID times that have people stuck at home.

So all you LLers, and PARENTS caring for your younger LLers, keep up with PT as if you were still lengthening, SOOOO IMPORTANT, if you want to return back to normal.

What do people mean when they say "tightness", can you describe that feeling ? is it like muscle soreness,  how your muscles would feel the next day after a good weightlifting session ?
