Cheers for posting the video Cyborg, it was really good to hear one of the top docs talk about LL.

You seem to be extremely knowledgeable on this procedure. Are you aware where the field is heading from here, do you know of any upcoming advancements?

It seems like the internal nail and then the full weight bearing Stryde were two major ones that happened recently but while trying to learn about and consider this procedure I think it's be a good idea to know what could be available soon.

Thanks yeah the field of LL is definitely on the rise. Although nothing concrete yet, I've heard of some interesting research going on. If I'm able to say or find out more I'll be sure to update

Thanks very much for posting this great video interview with Dr. Mahboubian! I am really hoping to have my femur CLL with Dr. M in the near future so this video interview really helped me a lot! I need to keep saving $$ but as we all know "you get what you pay for..."

Anyways, thanks very much again for this awesome video cyborg! :)

Another amazing interview Cyborg, great job!

I was really impressed with Dr. Debiparshad. I loved his mindset -

  • Not all patients suffer from height dysphoria / some form of a mental illness surrounding there height - this is something I've struggled to connect with myself (I'm not saying others don't have some form of this) and feel much more aligned with the self improvement / improve quality of life approach
  • Getting back to work / normal life quality and fully utilizing the weight bearing technology
  • His calculated, almost "assembly line" type approach to the surgery - it seems like he has an amazing process down that he has now mastered
  • How he views the procedure and its future

If I was getting the procedure done in the states I would definitely be considering Dr. Debiparshad. Thanks for putting this content out.

Thanks Batu I agree with all your points and was very impressed with Dr. D as well.

So I was able to do an interview with Dr. Giotikas today and although the sound wasn't the greatest I think he had a unique perspective on LL also.

Interview with Dr. Dimitrios Giotikas

Also, I have touched base with a patient who got cosmetic limb lengthening who said he would be interested in doing a live Q & A for those who ask questions about his LL experience from a patient perspective. I'm not tech savvy at all so still need to learn the details of how to properly live-stream etc.

Have a great weekend!

It's really great to see the passion these doctors have for their work, Dr. Gioktas seemed so happy when discussing LL and his patients.

I liked hearing him talk about the different generations of LL and the responsibility he feels to push the field forward in the right way, it will be really great to read his study when it comes out next year.

Data on funtionality, range of motion, recovery based on patients ratios and amount lengthening will be huge imo. These considerations are super important and will really help both doctor and patients decide on the best approach and goals.

Thanks for another of these interviews Victor, you're doing a great service to everybody interested in LL.

Thanks! Really appreciate what you are doing! I was particularly interested when he talked about the fact that soft tissues do grow, not just stretch. As you are keeping your eye on the current research being done, do you think developments are more likely to be in either

a.Slowing the rate of bone growth so that soft tissues can grow in unison ie. comparable to puberty, or
b.Helping resistant soft tissues grow and adapt better

I am keeping my eye on research and although some ideas are really intriguing on the LL front, I know a lot of projects need funding amidst the economic impact the pandemic has had.

a.) However I don't know of any way to slow bone healing besides age, deficiency in nutrition and introducing harmful risk factors (smoking, too much anti-inflammatory affecting prostaglandins, and various other medicines and diseases). Hence the importance of x-ray check-ups to monitor the patients rate of bone healing and make sure it matches the patient's muscle flexibility.

b.) In my opinion the best way to do this is going to be through conditioning leading up to your procedure. I believe if you get manual therapy such as deep tissue massages, foam rolling for myofascial release, or a percussion massage gun for breaking up scar tissue adhesions which can really affect muscle rigidity during LL

yeah he was definitely subbing debiparshad, lmao, the doctors show

and thanks cyborg, this is perhaps the best interview you've done yet. really love how much paley talked about how this surgery is lifechanging and his rant on body image and how he's changed his own view throughout his life and has become humbled.

also world premiere- paley's own stature only limblengthening website- hyped to see that.

also im suprised that he said 1/3 of his stature patients are quadrilateral lengtheners. i thought it was a rarity but apparently it's more common than i thought.

I had asked my surgeon of he would be down for doing an interview like these, but he declined at the time. I wonder if he's changed his mind since then. A lot of what he said in my consultation mirrored what Dr Paley said in his video interview, particularly about fibula fixation and frustration with the doctors who try to get cosmetic patients in and out like an assembly line.

I think it'd  be cool if you try reaching out to Dr Parihar and link him to the Paley interview to see if he'd be cool with doing one now, especially since India is still a sought after budget-friendly alternative.

@KiloKahn Yeah I actually reached out to Dr. Parihar about a week or so ago, haven't heard back as of yet as I know there are a lot of requests for him. I linked my previous interviews but perhaps now that I was able to get a sit-down with Dr. Paley it might pique his interest. I'll give it a shot thanks!

@Pushrottam That's what I've heard from most people including myself even though I only had one done. I wasn't back to running all out till about 2-2.5 years after aka a year after device removal.

Nice. I had thought Paley wouldn't talk much and would just say "go read up on the FAQs" lol.  But he seems to be a very friendly doctor :)

@Kilokahn maybe you can try to help cyborg4life get in touch with Dr. Parihar? ;) I would love to see his interview but again I think he would be very terse in his responses.

@cyborg you should also email his assistant Dr. Divya who usually handles a lot of the administrative stuff.

After watching this interview I respect Paley and his practice much more, also quick question to you Vic and @Purushrottam: how long after surgery did you guys get your rods removed? I'm trying to get them out ASAP but while making sure my bones are consolidated and safe, and also how long until you guys were back to "normal" from that removal surgery?

@limewalk I agree I talked to him for a bit before and after the interview and Dr. Paley is a cool guy. 8) Dr. Divya, okay got it. I plan to reach out again this week to see if Dr. Parihar would come on.

@Movie So I had my original surgery done late July 2012 and the removal was the Sept/Oct 2013 so just over a year later. I remember I was advised to use a crutch or two for a few days and was a tad stiff where they went in to remove rod and screws but could walk fine. Week 1 was just stationary bike to loosen up and after 2 weeks I slowly transitioned back into the gym. I noticed a difference getting the rod out. I could feel the tibia-fibula able to twist and torque better without feeling restricted with hardware, not to mention feeling a bit lighter in the leg and the original Precice was titanium so I can only imagine the weight the Stryde carries being steel.

@kats20 yeah he's a careful worker, the GOAT in LL. Thanks I appreciate it!

@Polvoron thanks for your support! I thought hitting the 1k mark was cool too for such a niche topic

Can Paley patients confirm?

Is it really true that you can (as Paley says in this interview):

- contact a PA for any difficulties during lengthening 24x7 and they would help you?
- if any complications spotted during PT, they would immediately text Paley and he or Robbins would see you without appointment?

When I discharged from hospital, they did give me a number and said there will be people answering the call 24/7 if I have emergency. But I never tried to call that number. So can't really answer that.
The therapists monitored my progress and measured the degree of my bending and legs straight. They said they need to input these number to their system and the doctor will check it. So I do believe they keep monitoring patients. But I am not sure what they will do if they spotted out complications. So far I am doing ok, I can give only my experience.

-Yes. Paley has a web portal where you can send messages to Paley and all of his staff. Generally, the doctors or PA got back to me within 24 hrs. I never had to call them as there was never an issue that was urgent for me.

- Yes the PT's oversee and monitor your progress throughout the entire distraction process (5 days a week). Each PT session the PT's are assessing your health (flexibility, pain or discomfort, range of motion, etc.) Also every 2 weeks you get x rays and the PT's do RoM measurements to make sure you are not behind the curve. I've seen people who got too stiff / didn't stretch enough where the PT's took note and informed the doctors who then required the patient stop lengthening, so yes, they do keep a watchful eye on you which overall is a good thing as it keeps you accountable for stretching and prioritizes safety.
