Gastrocnemius Recession
« on: June 13, 2020, 01:20:23 PM »

Surgeon says that I will probably need a Gastrocnemius recession for my tibia lengthening. It's not that bad right? I have no desire to be a serious sportsman  :D

Gastrocnemius recession is almost routinely done during tibia lengthening as it greatly helps decrease calf tightness and the risk of developing equinus contracture (foot pointed down and inability to bring it up . If you want to achieve your lengthening goals, you should definitely get the gastrocnemius recession.

Thank you!

1. What are your thoughts on what a patient say in response if a doctor refuses to pre-emptively do gastrocnemius recession before tibial lengthening? Should the patients keep pushing for it until the doctor accepts?

2. Should the patient also request a pre-emptive nerve decompression at the same time before the tibial lengthening?
