I had xrays today. We did just check if both sides are equally distracted. Im at 5,2 L and 5,3 R. So I will do my last distraction on the left leg today and start officially my consolidation phase :).

Congrats on finishing the distraction phase, Erkan! Longer legs look better on you for sure.

Congrats Erkan!

Do you know if there were other Koehne patients with a deep vein thrombosis?

Hey,

my surgery is in about a month, I will make updates of my progress here.

Current height: 172cm
Wingspan: 173
Inseam: 80
Tibia/Femur ratio: 0,79
Goal: 176-178cm

Here are some mockups with shoes (+3cm) and with femur +6cm. So its 175cm on the right before and 181cm if Ill do the full 6cm.
https://imgur.com/a/1xMmaij

Thanks for the mock ups. It’s crazy how much of a difference 6cm makes. Hope you are on track to achieve your goal :)

I have good news. The thrombosis has partially resolved. Had a duplex sonography yesterday and it is much better than 10 days ago. I've tried on some new clothes to see how I look in them now. i am really happy with my height and proportions now. maybe I still make 3mm to have full 5cm if possible.
Ive made some pictures in a self Photo Shoot :p
https://imgur.com/a/9eqyq0E

as a reminder, this is how I looked before. Unfortunately not in the same clothes. maybe I'll make a comparison with the same clothes in the future

thanks for your support!

Thx for the kind words :)

Just a quick update, Im doing fine. My life is already back to normal. Im of course not into sports, but doing the normal everyday things. I do not have pain. I still feel little bit stiff when I wake up.
My gait is improving. Sometimes I do even forget that I had the surgery. Im still very happy that I did it an can highly recommend it to people who suffer from height neurosis. It did realy change my life for the better! I will have x-rays in 3 weeks to check my bone growth. I will keep you updated!

Erkan, could you please ask Dr Köhne, which lenghtening nail he is planning to use in the future? As you know the Stryde Nail has been banned worldwide.

Very nice gait! Congrats, Erkan! Enjoy your new life! Were you at "Therme Erding"?

More questions to Köhne:
- Which lenghtening nail he uses at the moment?
- When does he expect Stryde Nail to be back on market?

Thank you!

Dr Koehne is using the Precice nail until stryde gets approved again. He expects stryde to come back early 2022. Thats what Nuvasive told him. But nobody can know for sure.

My xrays look good. I will be probably allowed to do sports in 6 weeks :)

Best regards!

Forget Precice! Do you really want to use a walker/wheelchair/crutches for six months?

I'm doing just 5 cm, so not THAT long. Anyway, I don't want to do tibia, and I have no money for betzbone so... Precice it's my only option if it comes back before August lol. I do am worried it takes longer

congrats. so many of the scars are so minimal.  and as i figured. really staying under the 5.5cm mark seems to show awesome proportions and great aesthetics.  coongratulations on the recovery. really great choice.  sucks stryde is gone haha. lucky you man!

Hello folks,

a quick update. Unfortunately, I'll need an additional surgery. Since my bone is not growing good enough on the outerside, my doctor will swap the Stryde nail for a standard nail in January. I think that has also something to do, with the fact why the nail has been recalled. I will have to leave this new nail for about 1 year before it will be removed. My doctor is pretty sure, that the bone will grow together properly after the nail change. There are no additional costs for me, as insurance will pay for it, but it is still an additional operation which I would be happy to skip :p.
Otherwise everything is fine with me. Im still very happy that I ve made this surgery.  I haven't done any intense sport for 11 months, now because the bones are not yet 100% stable and  I don't want to take any risks. Like many of my predecessors, I emphasize that it can often take longer than expected before you can do all kinds of sports again.
Here is another picture from my last x-ray. https://imgur.com/a/ON3vIMd

Best regards!

Hi Erkan, thanks for your update!

Did this malunion only occur in your left femur? Will the new nail be a full weight bearing nail?

I'm on my way home from the doctor. actually it had to be the operation clarification meeting today. however, the bone formation has improved significantly over the last x-ray in september which Ive included in my last post. The doctor has now decided to make another appointment in March. If the bone grow continues like that, I probably won't need an additional surgery after all. I was positively surprised. In addition, I got the approval to be able to do normal sport. :)
