Questions for people who have complications that required extra surgery

1. What were the first clues/symptoms you noticed early on related to the complication? I'm trying to be able to recognize problems so I can know when a problem is serious enough to contact the doctor

2. Were there any actions/conditions that contributed to the complication that a patient could have affected/influenced?

I am trying to figure out which things are in the patient's control and can influence (ex: noticing what symptoms? so can tell doctor quickly and not mistake them for minor issues. Or other actions that might contribute to a complication happening)

Ex: let's say for internal femurs or internal tibias
