Warning for those who want to go to Turkey for LL lengthening
« on: November 14, 2021, 03:21:40 PM »

I contacted with several in Turkey ( AFA and Livelifetaller, yuksel yurtras). I asked them about LON method with monolateral frames and all of them told me no problem Even I was 90 kg I could walk from second Say after operation. Then I contacted Dr Paley and Richard Luzzi and they told me that monolateral frames with a titanium nail (LON) only can support up to 60 kg, after That there is a risk of loose of half pins and can cause a severe valgus deformity. So there is the proof that some Docs don't give a fu++ about your health and only are hungry of money. I almost went there so be careful.

Did you ask the docs at Turkey what type of nail they use for LON? They could be using stainless steel instead of titanium which has a higher weight-bearing capacity.

I asked AFA and yuksel and both of them use titanium nails SO the capacity shouldn't be more.again Richard Luzzi told me tirani nails only can carry up to  60 kg

You put all your Weight during distraction? Or only during consolidation? I read in some Google reviews Many complains about Buldu

even i have titanium nails. during distraction we ddint risk full weight bearing due to risk of pin bending..but 20 days after distraction i have tried walking unassisted and the nails could bear the weight..still i think 30-40 days based on bone bridging we can go for full bearing. i weigh around 75 btw

I don't think doctors even from turkey would lie about the weight-bearing limit of a surgical technique you're about to go through. I've seen people walking with LON monorails who are well over 60 kg and their final x-rays are just fine.

Imagine me, I am 83 and they say I could walk 2 days after surgery. That is real with pure external Ilizarov fixator but for LON just no

You should stand after all surgical procedures; weight bearing drastically reduces risk of blood clotting.

I don't remember the material of the nail. I think titanium? Idk. It's an incredibly hard, dense nail.

Both. I was standing 2 hours after surgery.

The issues of standing up, walking and load bearing capacity during the lengthening period are not related to the intramedullary nail. The distal segment of the intramedullary nail is not locked in surgery. In other words, all of the body weight is on the external fixator. Ilizarov or monorail external fixators and pins already have a very high body weight bearing capacity. So yes, you can get up and walk on the second day of the surgery. Walking with full body weight without using a walker may be inconvenient in terms of loosening the pin sites, not in terms of carrying capacity. After the lengthening period is over, the distal part of the intramedullary nail is locked with screws and the external fixator is removed. During the consolidation period, the entire body weight is on the nail. In this period, walking without support with full body weight before the callus tissue hardens enough may be a matter of discussion.
