Is PT that big a deal with femur lengthening?
« on: June 23, 2017, 05:54:01 PM »

I got this booklet https://www.hss.edu/files/LL-LimbLengthingSurgicalGuide_2014.pdf which Dr Rozbruch gives to his LL patients.

The exercises are very simple. You don't even need a PT to help you with these.

Why is there such a big stress on the physical therapist for LL?

Because often there are points when lengthening that you feel like such crap you won't do the PT at all on your own or will half-ass the exercises. Having someone else forcefully stretch you can definitely help.

I think physical therapy is VERY important during femur lengthening, but having a PT not so much. If you follow accurately the times for stretching and do the exercises in a proper manner then that's enough most of the times.

During lengthening, I had both a trainer and a PT. While the trainer encouraged me to stretch, do bike, walk, do elliptical; these are things I could do by myself. Still, a lot of the other patients, because of pain or laziness, did not do the exercises and having a trainer was helpful. The PT did massages and taped my knee when it was bothering. A nice addition but never necessary.
