Knee height
« on: January 23, 2015, 08:46:50 AM »

Anyone cares to share some numbers? :) It's easy to measure:

I'm at 58 cm after lengthening 7.5 cm on my tibia, so my knee height was 50.5 before. Anyone's got more?

Pre-surgery - 167 cm, Post-surgery - 181 cm

Lengthened 7.5 cm in tibias and femurs and 3.5 cm in each humerus. Surgeries performed all external by Dr. Kulesh, in Saint-Petersburg, Russia - http://www.limblengtheningforum.com/index.php?topic=1671.0

Wow! That's some tiny tibias! (1.7 inch under 5th percentile) You should probably do tibias then instead of femurs.

I heard doing femurs was safer and that it can handle more length.

http://msis.jsc.nasa.gov/sections/section03.htm
50th percentile is 56.7 cm
95th percentile is 60.9 cm

Keep in mind that the measurements are taken from NASA crewmembers, where the average height for US male is 180 cm. (95th is 190 cm). So you seem to fit fine.

So you have more or less the knee height of the average 6'2 man. Not very disproportionate at all, I must say. I doubt anyone would notice.

That's exactly right.  My uncle is 6'2 and when I sat down next to him after LL, I noticed our knees were the same height.

Knew height isn't equal to tibia length. Knee height includes the height of feet and ankles as well.

You must have really short legs then (or you measured wrong). Do you know your belly button height? (the distance between the ground and your belly button)

Predicted stature from knee height
http://www.nuas.ac.jp/IHN/report/pdf/04/01.pdf
=59.1+2.1×knee height(cm)

So your tibias are usual for someone 170.5 cm tall.

Counting knees and feet, I'm 49cm at 5'2. My femurs are short though so my legs as a whole are short.

It's annoying when comparing with the average american male because I'm not even in the 5%...and we are not all living in the US. ;)
This may be useful as well: http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Human/Human_sizes.html
Anyway, my knee height is 49,5 at 167,5. I was thinking about doing tibias...

That's an interesting site, although suggests 174.5 cm as the average  :-\

Although my hands are average size, feet are very small, seat to knee height is 51 cm, and my buttocks to knee is 55.5 cm which is below the 95th percentile!

Is there anyway to measure hips (upper leg) length too, so we can compare with knee height?
