Day -8:

I waited over nineteen years to write this diary.
It's my turn now.
My dream is coming true.

After following countless lengthening journeys for two decades, many unfortunately riddled with complications, I waited and chose my surgeon - the best in the world Dr. Marie Gdalevitch and her team at the Canadian Limb Lengthening Centre.

I always thought I had to do this alone, in a foreign country and deal with the high complication rate. Russia was my first choice all those years ago, with plans to fend off polar bears by ripping out the wires in my ex-fixes and use vodka for pain management.

I made plans to go to many other places after that, and whenever I thought I saved enough money to have surgery overseas, I would end up finding out about the untreated complications in the places I planned to go to.

So I constantly postponed until I had enough money to get somewhere safe, and by His Amazing Grace, I am finally able to do this in my home in Canada, in Montreal, with the CLLC, the safest place I can be.

If you are wondering how I was finally able to fund the surgery, I did it by selling eggs to Americans.

I also don't have to do this alone anymore and found supportive people - shout out to my ancillary lengthening team (in addition to the CLLC team), these people are all very dear to me for helping me get to my goal.

I am making this entry on the runway of my flight to Montreal from Vancouver. I'll be there in a few hours for my surgery in 8 days.

It's time to take off - and it's time to break these legs. The journey of a thousand miles begins.

Day -7:

Arrived at YUL Airport, I love this place, brings back memories. I was here 3 months ago for my in person consult with Dr. Gdalevitch. I also briefly met Canada's greatest documentary star and his pastries - thank you for your service to this country and this d (members here know him well). I salute you.

Having nothing written in English here is fantastic, and I feel like I’m in Europe tasting a baguette when I’m greeted by French gibberish. “Pepe Le Pew, sacre bleu and croissant to you too mademoiselle.”

Settling into my small, yet well equipped accommodation as I write this entry. It's well situated for the CLLC staff to get to me and close enough to the surgeon’s office where I need to see her in person for biweekly follow ups.

Busy day ahead tomorrow, need to stock up on supplies and outfit the apartment to be handi-capable while I’m regular-capable (shower chair, toilet safety rails etc). Super jet lagged and have not slept in over 30 hours getting various things done - a few small stretches then sleep now.

“Accént aigu and bon soir” folks. (edited)

Day -5:

Went on YouTube Live with Victor and other patients to discuss limb lengthening. I also went to the surgery centre to show the person taking me back home what to do. I have been told that I must be accompanied back after surgery.

I met a Dr. Gdalevitch patient in person, he was cleared for full weight bearing and is doing well. We both went on Victor's live that day. Another Dr. G patient that I am in contact with also just became fwb. I expect to meet more Dr G patients soon. Fun times.

Day -3:

Disclaimer - Take nothing for fact from random people on the internet aka me and talk to a surgeon instead. The videos are of surgery that I found on CLLC's youtube channel.

I am mentally preparing myself for the surgery in a bit more detail.

The following is what I expect to happen in 3 days and I am quite excited for it:

I will be put under with spinal anesthetic.

The surgeon will use an external fixator during surgery to maintain rotation as seen here:

The surgeon will vent the canals to reduce fat embolism risk and to facilitate the osteotomy as mentioned here:

and here:

I believe the surgeon makes an incision at the troch entry point since I expect to get Antegrade Femur Trochanteric 10° (bend) nails. I believe they are 10.7mm in diameter, I do not know the length but I'll find out one day.

The surgeon will use a guide wire and reamers to prepare the canal to make more room for the implant. Here is a clip of it in action:

The surgeon uses a guide arm to insert the nail at the entry point up to the point of the osteotomy site as seen here:

She completes the osteotomy with an osteotome. This way the body will think its fractured so that it has better chance of making good regenerate bone, then the rest of the nail will be advanced to the distal femur.

See here:

There will be few more incisions to drill in the locking screws. The guide arm helps with the proximal locking screws and the surgeon uses a technique called perfect circles for the distal locking screws as mentioned here:

The surgeon locates the magnet and uses a marker to draw a cross so that I know where to place the erc during the distraction phase.

The surgeon will also draw smiley faces on my knees to make me happy (surgeon calling card). I will need to redraw the cross as it fades. Most likely knowing me, I will also redraw the smiley faces to remember my surgery day.

The surgeon distracts the nail intraoperatively to test it as seen here:

I am not sure if she retracts it right after, I should ask surgeon.

The surgeon will do a percutaneous ITB release - it will be a full release on the side since the IT band is quite resistant to lengthening.

One of the last steps is to inject botox into the quads and hamstrings to make the lengthening process a bit easier.

Here are all the incisions I expect to have, 8 small ones (nail entry point, 2 proximal screws, osteotomy site, 2 distal screws, 2 for fixator and soft tissue release). Explained here:

Here is a slightly longer video of the surgeon explaining things properly during surgery:

I gave consent for my surgery to be recorded as well for it to be studied by medical professionals. I wonder if I as the patient will be able to see it too, cuz that would be pretty cool.

Day -2

Ported my diary entries to the Limb Lengthening Forum for backwards compatibility, a website I lurked around for a long time on and off reading diaries. Iirc, there used to be even an older LL forum besides this one many years ago, don't know what happened to that.

I will be using Cyborg4life Dis cord patient-diaries Forum Channel and as permitted, Cyborg4life live streams as the primary means for documenting my journey. I will try to reflect entries on the forum from time to time for legacy reasons since so many people still use it, but I have mainly given up on the forum as it's usually down half the year.

Dis cord is a better way to contact me if you have any questions, but I'll do what I can to reply on here as well. Thank you.

Day - 1

Was a beautiful day in Montreal. Went for my last run for a long while. Not to mention did my last stroll in the park without walking aides. Did my last prayers that I could do on my knees.  Meh. All function should come back in time - super happy for tomorrow.

I used to hate running 9 months ago, could barely do 10 mins without running out of breath, now can do 2.5 hr jog easily. It made me lose weight... but lately I gained 10 pounds since my last weigh in at CLLC... I don't know what they put in the food here, maybe they feed their poultry and beef poutine and I'm inheriting their calories.

Day 0

Father, hallowed be your name.

Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,
And let Your will be done in me.

Please give me my daily bread,
Today that being a successful surgery.

Forgive my sins, for I also forgive anyone who sins against me,
Forgive me for today if this is a sin, but I have been waiting for this day for a very long time and I am 100% certain that this is right for me.

Lead me not into temptation and deliver me from evil.

In the name of the Christ Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, to the Father I pray this.
Amen.

Can't wait to see the surgical team in a few,
It all begins here,
I'm seeing nothing but my dream coming true,
While I'm staring at the world through my rearview,
To the end, my friend, I'm seeing nothing but my dream coming true,
While I'm staring at the world through my rearview.

See you on the other side.

### DAY 0 cont. - approx ~ 1 hr post up

Out of recovery room and in my room, I think surgery was under 3 hours, went in around 8:30am,  making this entry 11:45am ish

Talked to Dr G quite a few times, answered 100 of my questions and she said she filmed my surgery and I can see it so I am super happy about that 😄.

I will put it up when I get copy, maybe I can show Victor Cyborg4life too.

Honestly barely any pain, to no pain, but  anesthetic probably haven't worn off yet. I had more pain during wisdom.teeth removal surgery.. really not feeling much atm. Legs are still bit numb.

There were like 10 ppl in the op room, huge team.

Everyone is super nice. I feel well taken care of here.

This was peanuts so far.

I was able to drink coffee right after... was going insane not having my morning cofee. So happy got my coffee.

DAY 0 continued

I got a treat for the community. Here are clips of me walking bit over 8 hours post-op. I somewhat demanded that my nurses and physio film me, cuz this is fun for me. And its also important to me that I document this. Everyone here is so nice.

This is also my third walk after surgery.

Also don't get me wrong, like I'm trying to make it super easy breezy covergirl - this is serious surgery and definitely not for the faint of heart. My blood pressure went down a bit and I almost fainted 3 times and tried to vomit since the surgery.

Everything can be different from patient to patient, but i am showing how I am doing this and what's possible with me.

Anyways without further ado, bit after 8 hours post op, after surgery with the best in the world Dr Gdalevitch and the CLLC team, Here is Master Broken Legs (aka Distractor) walking:

Edit: I can't upload here (originally in Dis cord) without paying, using Utube account and uploading my first ever YouTube video.

Day 1

Pain is here lol. It's not too bad though, manageable with medication.

Even though not in awful, unmanageable pain, I didn't sleep at all.

Blood pressure going a tiny bit wacky so a bit hard to walk now since getting lightheaded, but surgeon explained there is nothing too major to worry about at this time.

Dr. Gdalevitch came very early in the morning to check on me and answered another 100 of my questions... everyone has been so nice to me even though I exaust all of them with question after question.

She said I need to drink way more fluid, eat more and move.

Either way, I am well enough to  get discharged today and will go back to my accommodation.

Overall a great experience, even with the inevitable ups and downs in this brutal game we more than happily choose to get ourselves into.

And forgot to add, the nurses here are super hot. Must be some sort of special poutine they eat.

Day 1 continued

I said goodbye to all the nurses and asked if I could know their names - they said yes. I wanted to remember them all since they helped me with this amazing experience that I have wanted to have for two decades. Thank you again nurses.

I forgot to bring my phone charger and they lent me one last night, but somehow it got lost in the bed. I really hope they find it again after my discharge, but if not, I will try to rectify it soon.

I got back to my accommodation, but it was a slight challenge. Walking wasn’t difficult, but transferring into the car and bed was. I was having trouble lifting my legs onto the bed and my mom was helping me with it. I’m not certain how some people manage to do this by themselves in the first couple of days, but I’m lucky to have my mom.

Blessed is she for taking time off work and flying with me to French Canada to help me at this time when I truly needed someone.

Day 2

I fell asleep after approximately 36 hours of being awake since I woke up from surgery. After a good night’s sleep, the pain went down significantly. I am still having trouble lifting my leg onto the bed, but otherwise fully functional.

The CLLC nurse came to check my vitals along with the CLLC physio. Vitals were fine. The nurse asked if I went number two yet and I responded negative. Hopefully one day.

Physio took off my leg mummy wraps and compression socks. It felt like when Darth Vader’s mask was coming off in a Star Wars scene - puffs of steam and all. He was impressed with the amount of little to no swelling I had (in fact, he noted that I was the patient he has seen with the least amount of swelling ever!). But he then mummified me again until further notice, as per protocol.

I went on Victor's YouTube livestream with a few LL legends that came on that day like Real Deal and Height Journey. It was so cool to be on the same stream with them. HJ announced his retirement - sad to see it, but well deserved. Thank you HJ so much for all the resources you provided to all of us.

Day 2 continued

**The Fabled Dump of Doom on Mount Commode**
Disclaimer: This diary entry is not safe for work… nor children… nor anyone, really. Reader discretion is strongly advised.

I have not defecated.
It has been 3 days.
I dreaded this inevitable day, as I have read of this experience in other diaries - it is my turn to live it.

I know this is going to be painful. I transitioned from walker to toilet safety rails and positioned my posterior on the cold, hard seat of death. My cheeks were spread, my quivering hole ready for the impending onslaught that was about to happen. It was now time to push. I took a deep breath and pushed.

Oh boy here it comes.
The pressure in the anal canal is intense… I wish I could vent it like a surgeon as they do before pushing the implant inside the intramedullary canal.

Whoa, hot! Hot hot!
Whoaaa hot hot hot hot hot!
It burns… it burns.
It's so big…
It's almost out and ripping me open.

But it did not go out. It stayed inside.
Maybe I just did not want to part with it.
This was something I made, something that grew inside of me for such a long time. It’s a part of me - something so huge and significant and the only thing I ever made that was any good. Maybe I just didn’t want to let it go.

This crap must be massive. It was one of the biggest accomplishments I have ever created.

Maybe this accomplishment I should keep in me, and just crap it out in my usual toilet at home in Vancouver. I feel like I need to push it out in my hometown for all to see - to show my glorious poo to my friends and family, this amazing accomplishment, and tell them that I finally made something of myself and did something meaningful with my life.

But I can’t go back to Vancouver now - I heard it’s never safe to fly in your turd trimester.

Alas, I must defecate in French Canada, and pass this glorious stool without the fame and glory that I could’ve had in Vancouver.

Let’s retry. I shall push.

In my earlier years, I was microfracturing my shins in attempts to grow taller. I’m sure people in this community have heard of this bogus method - along with hanging weights from your ankles, hanging upside down, and taking crazy pills, etc.

Anyways, instead of microfracturing my shins, I should have been microfracturing my butthole and trying to make it larger - at least that would’ve helped me on this fateful day.

Hot hot hot! It burns… it burns.
Why am I so full of crap?
I am just a giant piece of crap.
Crap in my head and in my ass and in my mouth.
Arghhh
Hot hot hot hot hot hot
In and partially out
In and out
In and out
Why won’t you come out - bitch stop playing peek-a-boo with my a—shole
And ARGHAHAHAHAHAHAH fgagshshshsh jdjhgdj jgsjsgd mutheferssks
Hot hot hot hot hot hot!!
Dohhhhhhhhhh… Oooh… Oohoo…
Ploppp!
Ohhh, it’s over. It’s finally over.

I stand up and stare back at the wonderful specimen I created. There are no cracks. One giant, solid piece. I should get a medal for this. It’s the biggest crap I have ever seen. I can’t believe this seriously came out of my ass.

It was time to flush it, but it’s so big, I don’t think it’s going to even fit. I should have taken pictures of it and filmed the experience for my newly created Youtube channel that I was forced to create since dis cord won’t let me upload videos of my lengthening journey for my diary entries for free.

All poo-poo commentary aside, the experience was not as bad as I'm exaggerating. The doctor prescribed a stool softener that helped with all of this. Ensure to take it… or just say goodbye to your little a—shole.

Day 3
Thought I had some sort of breathing problem, so I texted the CLLC nurse that I saw yesterday.

Dr. Gdalevitch immediately called me and out of an abundance of caution had my vitals checked and a doppler. French Canada does not mess around - CLLC takes safety very seriously… But everything checked out fine. I dunno, maybe I thought I had a problem just because I was surprised by the effort it takes to move around. A week ago, I was running 2.5 hours without a break and never ran out of breath.

Feeling pretty good otherwise -  walking around often, no pain at all really, just a bit at night when I don’t move much.

Still having a bit of trouble getting onto the bed. Trying to MacGyver my legs by lifting them with straps, two chairs, and a hand grabber to loop the straps on.

Day 4

Had physio on Saturday - he accommodated me on the weekend because there was no time yesterday with all the checkups, so I missed a session. Physio is super great and nice to talk to.

I can get myself onto the bed now and I’m basically fully independent to do almost anything I want.

Day 5
Walking on sunshine and it feels good! :sunny:

Here are clips of me walking with crutches and walker.
Note: I took multiple takes, so I walked a lot more than what was filmed.

Take 1, take 2… take 27 - action!

Day 6
More physio, eating, stretching, and getting around. Things definitely take more time to do, but I’m getting used to it.

My lower back is hurting way more than my legs. This is an ongoing problem I have had that creeps up every once in a while. I suspect it’s because I’ve been wearing 4 inch heels for 15 years… These things would’ve been the end of me if I couldn’t get this LL surgery.

I get awful pain in my lower back sometimes - bad enough that I have had to go to the emergency room before in Vancouver. But they always say nothing’s wrong and it totally disappears the next day. Then I completely forget it ever happened and just go on continuing to wear my heels.

I think I have aggravated it again recently with all the upper body movements I’m doing in bed trying to move my legs carefully. There are certain movements that are advised against because they stress the nails and I try really hard not to do any of those.

Day 7
Already been a week since surgery! It’s amazing how much I can do now. Dr. Gdalevitch was exactly right -  she said it would be good to get help from my mom for a couple of days to a week and that’s all I would really need.

Lower back pain continues though.

Day 8
Got the other CLLC physio coming to see me today - they alternate. Super great person too. I first met him on a video call, then again in person at the place where I had surgery.

Lower back pain is gone. It was there a tiny bit in the morning, but now it’s gone.

Also Victor just announced a special surprise guest from up north coming on the livestream?? Who the heck can it be? Can it be who I think it is?

Your back pain is likely caused by the sacroiliac (SI) joint, and your pelvis is generally misaligned. I’ve suffered from this issue for at least 20 years, since I was a young boy. Two months ago, I finally found a "specialist" who noticed I was walking a few millimeters off. He straightened me out. The problem returned quickly, within days. But now, by doing glute walking (lifting all other limbs, including legs, and "walking" forward slowly on your glutes, like you would with your feet), I’ve found relief. Another trick to possibly realign the SI joint at home: lie down or sit, place a pillow between your knees, and squeeze as hard as you can. (Of course, I can’t recommend this since you’re preparing for surgery.) If you hear or feel a click in your lower back, the SI joint likely popped back into place.

The problem is that if your pelvis and SI joint have been misaligned for a long time, your spine is likely misaligned all the way up to the base of your skull. So, the entire body needs to be realigned. I recommend an experienced manual therapist. Unfortunately, there are differences among these specialists, so the first one may not fully resolve your issue.

Haha, just noticed now—your lower back pain is already gone! :D

Day 9
Went to CLLC for my one week follow up with Dr. Gdalevitch.
The mummy wraps were taken off and it was time to remove the dressings and staples.
The CLLC nurse unstapled me.
I am a piece of paper stuck together - unstaple, unstaple, unstaple. Wasn't too bad.

I'm kind of going to miss the large hip dressing I had that covered the nail entry point  - it kind of looked like I had curves in all the right places like I got a big booty.
Once I mentioned this, the CLLC nurse was quick to point out my resemblance to a Kardashian... cuz that's totally the look I was trying to achieve with this surgery :P

Dr. Gdalevitch said I can lose the mummy wraps and compression socks - that is a relief.
Everything else looks good too and I can start lengthening tomorrow! And shower!

Tuned into Victor's livestream - he was interviewing a Dr. G patient. I know him personally, great guy, we first met on a livestream, then in person since I moved into the same complex. He achieved the maximum stroke of the nail in his femurs. I hope to follow in his footsteps... literally, in the same building.

Also, a special guest came on  - it was Dr. Gdalevitch! I knew it would be her.
She made a special announcement since there was a pause on surgeries for 4–5 months for reasons moronic (it was on the news).
I was actually the first one to be operated on since the pause.
Ain't no stopping greatness, fool - this Death Star is fully operational.

Day 10

Thank you Lord for today.
It is Good Friday.
I got to take a shower today after surgery - I feel like I look like creepy John the Baptist eating locusts and wild honey from The Chosen… or like a wildling wench from Game of Thrones as my hair is tangled to no end.
It felt good to take a shower.

It’s also the day I get to do my first lengthening!
I got the ERC. Will distract at 0.25mm bilateral, 4x a day.
The Globus/NuVasive rep said I must wait at least 3 hours before each session. He was also super nice and really wanted to answer all my questions.

I can’t believe it  -  Master Broken Legs will now officially become Master Distractor.
Here are my evolution stages like a Pikachu (I went on Victor’s YT live streams with these names):
Master Pre-Habber (getting ready for surgery for months) … evolved to
-> Master Butchering the French Language (after arrival in Montreal) … evolved to
-> Master Broken Legs (after surgery - latency phase) … evolved to
-> Master Distractor (distraction phase - I am here!!!)

I expected the ERC to be a bit bigger than it actually is, but man I’m glad to finally get my hands on the thing after watching so many others use it and reading about it for so damn long. Finally, my turn.

I am now 1.25mm taller as I write this at the end of the day (0.25mm was distracted during surgery).

It is indeed a Good Friday.

ERC distraction session end times:
11:15 AM – 3:35 PM – 7:20 PM – 11:25 PM
