Very frustrating day. Got my xrays and very, very little progress in 2 months. Could be the NSAIDS, could be my crap PT.

Doctor has now said, out of nowhere, that the frames cannot come off until I am walking unaided fully and able to sit>stand without aid. Very strange because this is the first time I've heard about it. So, now I need to start crushing my PT or I will never be out of the frames.

Very weird. In my eyes your legs look almost fully consolidated...Maybe you know another doctor who you can show the X-rays to for a second opinion? Via DICOM files or CD ROM ? As you said...what your doctor said is unusual. But maybe he thinks that you will progress to that level soon anyways and until than your bones might be 100%. In my case I couldn't wait until then. Pretty sure that without the frames, the recovery will be a lot faster.

You're probably right, it may be good for a second opinion, but I have seen massive strides in my abilities, maybe I am closer to walking/standing than I thought. I'm going to try and see how this month goes, really get into PT and see what happens. I just want to wear normal pants again. My doctor has said that if I can't walk/stand there is a possibility that the bones will compress on themselves and I'll lose height, so unless I'm able to walk fully they won't remove it. And you're definitely right, having these damn pins in my legs have to be halting my recovery.

2 week update or whatever it is.

Walking very good lengths of time unaided, I'll say for 3 minute intervals I'll walk unaided without crutches. But my form is not so great, I spoke to a very interesting blind russian physiotherapist, and he's basically given me this video to help me recover

He's told me walking is not the be all and end all, these exercises are much more important, so I'm focusing on that more than before, which every post-LL patient says anyway.

One last thing, still getting some swelling after walking a lot. I really do hope it's just because of the pins. Damn I want these things off. :(

Are you taking supplements?

Make sure you're getting appropriate vitamin d3, calcium and vitamin K intake for someone with broken bones. Drinking one glass of milk thrice a day might also help some (increases IGF-1 levels in the body).

Yes I do want to add, before doing this surgery, ask yourself if you have optimized your life to the fullest extent possible (job/career, personality, etc).

Diet and everything is listed in my google doc below. I have it all covered.

Hello how are you doing now. I am at 3cm and feel like im ripping apart. I wanted to ask you when you were at 3cm did it feel this tight as if it felt like you were literally ripping your muscles apart. For me it is so tight at 3cm i cant imagine how tight it would be at 6cm.

Check my walking videos above. 3CM was definitely tough, just read my diary about how slow I was lengthening, it took 3 - 3.5 months because I was in pain a lot after each day.

My doctor hasn't said anything just yet. i believe I will dynamize my frames and then maybe take them off in a month.

So, today I had my left leg dynamized. The first 2 days don't feel good at all, the weight is all on my bones now, and it's painful in all of the weak spots. Goign to be difficult to walk today, but need to get outside

Well, sort of. They release the entire apparatus from supporting your bones, and then reattach it. So, the apparatus is no longer bearing all the weight. My bones are now taking the most of the pressure on my left leg.

I have confirmation that my left leg can be removed in 1 month :D :D

Yeah it's a long time. Some complications, ballerina, some duck ass. But it will be straightened out in physio I believe.

Looks like next week the frame is coming off :D So far my left leg which has had the frame removed already is really strong once the frame is off. You really do get a lot stronger once it's off. Stairs are easy and I don't need crutches. A lot of stuff is easy to do, but I definitely need to work on my balance. But... if next week it's out, that puts a total of 333 days for everything to be done, and still need to have rehab done to get everything back to normal.

Pretty big sacrifice to take for 5cm, but I'll see how much I'm effected after the surgery.

Sounds amazing! That gives me hope, too:) Do you know when your frame will be removed exactly?
How many pins did you have inside each of your leg again? Because not everyone seems to have the same amount of pins.

It was removed 2 days ago. If I count the holes in each leg it’s 13. I really just tried to keep my eyes closed on the removal. They don’t use anesthetic and the screws are a good 7cms deep into the skin. I believe 3 were screws, and 5 were wires that went through.

Just taking the next week and resting. My ankle is a bit tight, and I have a little bit of ballerina in my right leg but I think I can get rid of it. Movement is pretty good, able to walk around without crutches, but still have a tiny bit of duck ass. Nothing exercise can’t fix.

So this is pretty much it, road to physiotherapy is long but I have my height and it’s pretty cool. Immediately noticeable for me especially now that I can wear boots and normal pants again.

Maybe 8 months post frame removal. Feel absolutely fantastic. Can run, jump, whatever. Go up and down stairs with weights. The biggest difference is that my balance is definitely worse, for example on a slippery street in the rain I have fallen down drastically more times.

Also, if I am sitting for example in a kneeling position it is a bit tight.

I accidentally deleted the google doc. Mostly I turned to the dark side and used testosterone and steroids to heal faster. Tried to eat a clean diet, but really hard to do. It's almost like quarantine life really, so many similarities. Best thing to do is get weights, and get training. Just read through this thread, it's pretty well explained how I felt day to day
